TO BE INTRODUCED IN JANUARY, AERUS GUARDIAN PLATINUM.

A sebo or Miele is a much better bet.... Like I said aerus is a solid performer, but its lacking in refinement. Customer service and the dealer-parent company communication is non existent. If stores are closing as they have in my area, then that should be an indicator of where they are headed. We lost 3 stores on long island. I have the lux upright, it grooms nicely, but the Miele or sebo Felix is much better and more versatile for $599 vs $1,000 for aerus upright with tools

I just don't understand why Aerus can't do anything that makes logical sense lately? The Renaissance body was less flimsy feeling than the egg-shell style canisters, and better looking in my opinion, as well as being able to store tools covered on board, and a 28 FOOT LONG CORD! The long cord makes it so much easier to use than any other Lux canister and its so nice to not have to constantly find another outlet.

Wouldn't it make more sense to find a way to fit a HEPA filter some where within the body, not that awful after thought looking box on top like the first Guardian? While they are at it, make sure the body is sealed and has sound dampening material like a Miele, and make a smaller and better designed hose handle (the old one is very bulky). Change the brush in the power nozzle or rework it so it preforms more like its other high end competitors.

They had a great body style to begin with, so why not rework it a little bit so that it has a better chance to stand up to the competition? There is no need for them to reinvent the wheel or import a machine that wasn't created in-house, just follow the leads of some competitors and incorporate them into their own products. This happens within all industries, just take a look at the automotive industry where many borrow technology and designs, yet Aerus seems to stick their head in the sand and refuses to look at was is around them.

2 HEPA filters? Isn't that a bit of over-kill? And what about its affect on the suction power/airflow of the machine? Make a HEPA bag and just use one HEPA filter, Perfect has already come out with HEPA C-style bags too. And for what reason would there need to be a HEPA filter both before and after the motor? I've never heard of such a thing, nor would I think it would be necessary if the bags filtered well. I forgot to mention in my previous rant about that the Aerus paper bags need to be improved and it would be a welcomed change if they were made from material similar to Miele and Kirby filtrete bags.

Very smart move for Aerus...Miele Killer here!

First off, let me say I will FOR SURE be adding the Aerus Platinum to my collection, as well as an original Guardian when I can find one in good shape.

Steven: I totally agree with you about Aerus needing to offer a Cloth HEPA bag! I don't feel the bags need to be upgraded, they are really good quality as it is. HOWEVER, these days, when Aerus is trying to compete with Miele & Sebo as their primary competition, & they sell the Aerus Classic for $1,000 dollars, they NEED to make a Cloth HEPA bag available as optional equipment for consumers to buy! When you spend that kind of money for a vacuum nowadays, you expect these features to be there. Especially when Aerus could contract with Perfect, JohnnyVac (vac shop distributor in Quebec that offers the Cloth HEPA bags) & Tacony to make their bags for them & not have to worry about the expense of setting up a manufacturing line to make a new product. It would be a smart move that would modernize their product & offer an additional product to sell to consumers at little expense.

As far as 2 HEPA filters being overkill? Well, I think it's a smart move for Aerus to market this system to consumers! Most people want the additional filtration, but they don't want to pay for costly filters & bags to accomplish it! Especially when some makers like Miele price their HEPA filters at $60 a filter....and you have to change it every year! I think that marketing the Aerus Platinum with micro-filtration bags, then a Washable HEPA filter to capture fine particulates, & then a True HEPA filter on the exhaust to capture carbon dust & whatever the Washable HEPA may miss is a smart move. Consumers will find favor with this type of system, as it will minimize their expenses to operate the vacuum long-term. The only problem I can see with the Aerus Platinum is the bags are a bit on the small side- even for an Aerus- and while most consumers that are already Aerus or Electrolux users will be used to small bags, it might be something for them to complain about or think a little harder about buying the vacuum. To overcome this, Aerus is going to have to make the cost of a pack of bags a very reasonable price, & offer bulk packaging/discounts on the bags. This takes away a consumer's complaints about the small bags if the cost is reasonable.

And Steven, no offense, but WHY would they go to the design & manufacturing expense of redesigning the original Guardian, when they can import a product that accomplishes everything you want to see in an improved Guardian? Most importantly, it still looks like an Aerus! Consumers aren't going to look at this & think to themselves, "What planet did they design this vacuum on?! This doesn't look like the Aerus vacuums I've always known." I think Joe Urso was very smart to choose to import the Platinum & "Americanize" it....they have a new premium vacuum that addresses dealer's complaints about the Guardian Ultra, that's new & improved, without any additional manufacturing expense! That's a no-brainer idea that makes PERFECT sense to me, if I was CEO of a company! And you say that Aerus is sticking their head in the sand & ignoring the world around them? If that's so, at least to my mind, they would have just kept the Guardian Ultra & never even dreamed of importing the Aerus Platinum! I would be willing to bet good money that Joe Urso has been paying VERY CLOSE attention to Miele, Sebo & Riccar/Simplicity, & decided this would be the perfect answer to make a product to compete against them in the marketplace.

Gareth: I understand your concerns about the vacuum being metal, & the dents you have gotten in yours after a few short years. I would be annoyed by that too! However, here in North America, it will be a selling feature against Miele....consumers here tend to associate a metal vacuum as being more durable, & will see it as an advantage the Aerus Platinum has over their competition. After all, in America consumers had Electrolux metal vacuums for 2 decades & the problem with denting existed then, but yet they still go back to buy a new metal canister, so they can't see it as much of a problem as you do.

lets see what happens...

To Kirbylux77....Aerus may be coming up with a new model, however, it sounds great, but time will have to tell. I honestly do not think Aerus can compete with Miele or Sebo no matter how hard they try if there is no marketing or promotion. Not many people know what the hell and Aerus vacuum is if you asked them. A metal vacuum with two hepa filters, suction control and all the bells and whistles mean nothing if there is no glowing website, promotion by dealers and the parent company, as well as allowing sales via online retailers and/or select retailers.

Aerus needs to market itself. They have their work cut out; they changed their name and sold the ELECTROLUX name, so many people still have no damn clue what Aerus is. The brand needs to be re-established, re-branded and promoted. Miele and Sebo can be purchased from numerous online retailers, fine home stores and local vacuum stores. Miele is synomymous with high quality home appliances and has been around longer than Electrolux-Aerus. People know what Miele is seven times more than Aerus.

Aren't the Aerus vacuums sealed already?

I could be WRONG, but with the Renny I had and now the Epic 6500, the exhausted air comes out in only ONE place, through the after filter, not multiple places like the Sears canisters.

I agree with you. I liked the Renny much more than the Epic 6500 as far as body style and on board tool storage. It's a pain to carry that floor tool around for quick connect and they need to find a place to fit that on board! Such a pain and it's even worse on the Epic 6500. The Renny also had a bit more suction that the Epic6500. That being said, I do like the Epic 6500 - other than what I mentioned, it's perfect for me and easy to use to run quickly through the house to get the cat hair every day. I could LIVE with it as my main vacuum but I wouldn't want it as my main vacuum.

There are so many possibilities for them to vastly improve this vacuum, but it's just basically a different color and an additional filter? GRRR

I think it is time Aerus-Lux put a filter in front of the motor after the bag-I have seen MANY blown motors and fans in Aerus-Lux vac where the bag leaked or burst and the contents went into the fan and motor-trashing it.Just about any object entering a clean air type motor will break the fans-and possibly the motor too in the process. The premotor filter protects the motor and the vac user from an expensive and long downtime repair if the bag breaks.OTHER canister vac makers have used premotor filters to protect the fans and motor in case of bag breakage or leaking.

Yea, when I first got the Renny, then the epic6500, I thought it was very odd that there was nothing to protect the motor after the bag at all. Even the Kenmore had a pre motor filter. Of course, that was another filter to have to buy.

Bags, pre motor filters, hepa filters = expensive over time.

Consumers complained about the small capacity of the

Lux 'C' bag. "It fills up too fast" not realizing it is removing the dirt the previous cleaner did not.  Or, after replacing the hose and brushroll, the complaint would be voiced "it never did that before"

If Aerus Lux were to reissue the G, (or the Canadian equivalent) all in chrome, or gleaming titanium, with the hospital filter as a Hepa, and a good brushroll, interchangeable options w/o using tools, 28 ft cord, braided hose (c'mon with today's technology surely they can make a flexible, soft, durable braided 9 or 10 ft electric hose) they could sell it for 2K without needing to come down on the price. The G was light, durable, quiet, powerful and convenient. It and the Airway Sanitizor were the pinnacle of bagged canister engineering, in my estimation.

What exactly do you mean by interchangeable options WITHOUT using tools? Are you referring to the floor tool being part of the PN, similar to the Kenmore crossover; so essentially, you don't need a floor tool?

The C bags are great - so easy and idiot proof. I actually went 6 weeks without changing mine recently for the first time ever. The reason I went so long this time was because (other than using my Rainbow half the time) I had put some of the Green Rainbow D&A on a cotton ball and sucked it in the bag the last time I changed it, and it completely kept the bag from smelling, even after six weeks. Sucking up some rice also helped somewhat with airflow. I just changed the bag yesterday and it was pretty full. It actually had some weight to it, but not packed

Will the new Platinum have a 10ft electrified hose? Will it have a two-speed PN?

I think a 2-speed PN is a GREAT idea; the low speed for vacing delicate rugs.

Once the Guardian Platinum comes out, I'm DEFINITELY buying one! :D

Stopped at the Aerus/Electrolux booth tonight at the MN Stat

Saw the new Platinum machine.  Played with it a bit.  Ugh, those plastic wands are too much.  Talk about cumbersome.  No thanks.  Wasn't too impressed with the machine overall.  It was pretty -- like the colors.  It was moderately quiet as well.  The guy was trying really hard to sell us on it.  The price was ridiculous.  "Normally: $3199 -- Special State Fair Price, just for you: $1999 ... plus a free space heater or lightweight upright or air cleaner" -- then it came down to "$1399, cash and carry tonight, no extras..."  "Take it home for a week, see how you like it.  If you don't like it, we'll come pick it up."

Eh, no thanks.

Fred, did you notice if.....

The new Platinum machine had any type of variable speed control?

Thanks,

My local vacuum dealer just got one in... I did not try it out, but it looks like it does have variable speed control +/- on the unit itself. It looks nice, its a dark gray unit but it didn't appear to have telescoping wands. It probably will be overpriced as most of Aerus stuff is. I still think Miele is paramount..."The electrolux of today" I doubt sales will change much unless they break out of dated direct sales method and price more attractively. Put the machine next to Miele in stores.

Ehh

ill stay with my Miele 100 percent better made and 100 percent better vacuum . Then a Aerus i have to agree with then on one thing which is nothing sucks then Aerus/Electorlux haha .
