Tips/Tricks Remove LuxXXX Motors

I have removed many XXX and Kenmore Rocket motors before I was involved much with this club. I am about to remove some more but, as I recall, I really struggled getting those motors out. I recall them being tight in the case and virtually having to pry and bend and wedge them out. I am presuming that my technique is neanderthal and would appreciate any tips before my next attack. Tips? Tricks? Reference direction? Thanks.

Removing XXX motors

Hi, Mark--Nathan again, at your service--To remove the motor from an Electrolux model XXX, there are 3 nuts that hold the motor inside the case. If I recall correctly, they are either 3/8 or 11/32. A socket will work fine. Loosen the bolts, pull your wires straight down from the switch, and your motor should come right out! As for a Kenmore, it shouldn't be too much different, I would imagine that its motor is held in by screws. If you have any questions be sure to let me know--I'm always glad to help!

Heres a photo of the motor. It should come out fairly easy but if the case is dented or banged in the motor aera it may be difficult.

Kenmore Rocket

Okay, so your guidance on the XXX resulted in a swimmingly simple removal of the motor. But, then I tried a Kenmore Rocket - and that is the experience I remembered. Aarrrgghh!!!! I removed the tail section. Okay. Then I removed four screws and ended up removing a rear plate along with the motor windings exposing the armature? But, where to go from there? Move the motor mount assembly forward or back. The case seems to narrow in both directions. Aaaarrrgghh! I ended up bouncing the case front end down getting the assembly closer to the front. Then I went in with a socket/extension/ratchet and removed about 8 screws from a mounting bezel that consists of two plates with rubber in between. With the screws out (maybe I didn't need to remove the screws?) I was able to wedge this bezel off the fan shrowd and then move the motor out the back and then wedge the bezel out. It was a disgusting experience. What did I do wrong?

Kenmore Troubles

Hmmm, Mark--That Kenmore sounds like it is a doozey! Unfortunately I haven't taken any of those apart, Although on some tank cleaners, you have to loosen the handle assembly on the top, as there may be screws that screw in the handle that also screw onto the motor. Anyway--Try that.
