Came across this at my local Goodwill today and it was too pretty to pass up! A Hoover Celebrity IV ‘Deluxe.’ Appears to be in nice shape. It is surprisingly heavy for a compact cleaner, but I love the two-tone color scheme!

Nice find!

I definitely need some version of Celebrity in my life!
Ultimately, I'd like to find a green one with the round cord winder on top, and a power nozzle.
Enjoy yours!

Barry

Thanks! I do like the onboard tool caddy. When I say compact, I mean it’s size to weight ratio. I wouldn’t have thought it was so heavy for its size until I lifted it.

Very nice!

I love those Celebrities! Super strong suction and big bags. I need to pull one of mine out and start using it again.

Yeah, will be a fun machine to tinker with. I did see that the foam wrap around filters for the motor are discontinued, but I can probably make one. Do they really do that much in terms of keeping whatever gets past the bag from getting to the motor?

pre-motor filter

I would say it's important.  I remember the pre motor filter getting slightly caked with light colored dust over the period of a few months use.  I think because the paper bags back then were not hepa type.  If you can get hepa type bags, then it might be okay.  otherwise, yeah, just cut and tape a foam sponge type filter to shape and see how that works.

You could use the machine without one, no probem, but may have to have it deep cleaned someday if it starts to overheat or smell badly when using.

It may need a deep cleaning now, if you intend to use it as your "go to" for a while.  Also, your local small door vacuum shop may have a pre motor filter in stock!

Good luck!!

Make sure to have a motor filter for sure! Those type H bags leak dust over time so make sure to have BOTH the bag and FILTER in place before cleaning .Other wise pretty much bullet proof.

Are the aluminum wands supposed to come apart on these? Mine won't budge when I try to separate them. Nor will it separate from the power head. I see remnants of what appears to be masking tape at each juncture. Hopefully the previous owner didn't glue each piece together!

Also the cord winder seems to have lost its pep. It doesn't retract all the way. I took the top cover off and noticed the brake is missing its rubber pad or whatever was there to hold the cord winder as you pulled the cord out. Replacing the rubber piece should be easy, but any ideas on the cord winder itself?

Wands

I'm sure you would have already determined this.
It's not the telescoping wand, like on the Portable, is it?

Sorry. That's all I've got.

Barry

Be careful with those wands!

They DO come apart. but, they can be linked by a power cord. You'll have to disconnect them before you separate them. The wand I'm sending Barry, (Yes, I am), lol IS a telescoping wand....different.
That is a powerhouse machine, large bag capacity, great tools, etc. Afterall, it was made by Hoover.

And, IF?WHEN I can post photos again......................

I have 4 green Concept canister. Joe Kassock is interested in one. The other can be yours, as well. Something happened w/ loading pics into the computer with my digital camera. I used to post bverything. Having trouble at the moment.

Concept canisters

Huh... I wasn't even aware that there was a Concept canister.
I'm only familiar with the Concept uprights.
How old are they?
Send me a picture. JOKING!
I'm mainly interested in a Celebrity, but I'd certainly take a look at the Concept.

Barry

Well, try as I might, the wands wont come apart. I even attempted to gently coax them apart with a screwdriver and rubber mallet. Nada! I think they are inseparable! Does anyone have the Celebrity 3 piece wand set they are willing to part with?

I've had three Celebrities come and go over the years.

My favorite was a "Plain Jane" model with no power nozzle.

I also had a green and chrome one that didn't come with a power nozzle but did have an electric hose.

Then I found a Celebrity "QS" ["Quiet Series"] with power nozzle in nearly new condition. That beast was so noisy that I could hardly bear to use it. "QS" my foot!

Here are photos of them along with a really cool print ad and a screen capture from the TV -- 1970s "Match Game" was giving them away as consolation prizes.

This would be a challenge for me...

I no longer collect Hoovers. In fact I have and continue to trade them away.

HOWEVER, if I had found this one!!, I would have grabbed it. It is beautiful.

I have had steel wands seem to be fused together, but after a dousing of WD-40, they usually come apart. You do have to treat them and let the WD-40 work. Don't know if that would help aluminum.

Congratulations, she is beautiful.

Thanks Garry! I may give the WD-40 a try. I think I even have some PB Blaster at home. I hadn't thought to use them, but might be worth the effort if I can't come across some used wands for cheap. I guess the previous owner had an issue with the wands coming apart.
