Well, today we started off at the Salvation Army and I saw two red woks and said to my mom "Gee, those almost looked like Hoover Celebrities!". I discovered they made a new room for washers/dryers, mattresses, and vacuums. Way back in the corner, sitting next to a fantastic plastic Dirty Devil stickbroom, was a decent Hoover Celebrity III! It has dents here and there, I'll try and hammer those out. Still had the original filter, which was rotten. And the bag, which smelled like 30 year old cheeeeeeez! It was only $4.99, so I don't regret buying it. :)

Next, after visiting antique shop after antique shop, we went to another and looked around for a bit. There was this little section with a bunch of toys and such, we almost didn't look there. I decided why not so we went over, and a shelf full of vintage spice tins and vintage kitchen stuff caught my eye, and hiding behind an old spice tin was a familiar looking little red box with white writing. I knew exactly what it was, another early 50's Cedar-Pine Sweet-Aire! It was $5, so I made her an offer of $3 and she said don't worry about the tax. After I told her that I collect vintage vacuums she asked me "Do you want an old Kirby?". The story goes, years ago I bought a Kirby 515 for $11 from her at an estate sale (she owns the antique shop and also helps organise estate sales). After I bought the 515 she brought another to the estate sale the next day to see if I wanted it for the same price. She said it was a red one, so I assume it's the same one, it's a rebuilt early 500 series (before the 516), and has a problem with the switch. So today she offered it to me for free (the best price in the world!), when I go to pick it up I'll remind her and see if she remembers me. :)

Here are the pictures, and I'll try to get scans of the Sweet-Aire brochure soon.

Since I don't have any type H bags, I took the plastic collar from the bag, and hot glued it to a type J's cardboard collar. Doesn't leak! For a filter, I took a Kirby Micron-Magic dirt meter filter and cut it to fit the Hoover. Works great too! (The yellow spots on the filter is just a few drops of Kirby vanilla Odorific II).

Nice

Nice catch on the Celebrity.
How are you supposed to use that Sweet Aire stuff, pour some on the bag or what?

BTW the most common thing seen in every thrift store everywhere in every city are those red woks. It's unbelievable how many of those are out there. I always wished I had a camera with me everytime I see one. Now that I've told you that you're going to start noticing them everywhere as well. LOL

Thanks Pete. On some of the 500 machines (I don't know which model it started with) there was this little hole with a red plastic screw on the back of the Sani-Emptor. The user would have this special little tip to screw on to the bottle and pour a few drops into that little hole to deodorize the bag and make your room smell nice (or sweeten your air has Kirby says!).

Hmmm, your right, I will probably notice a ton of these now! I'll try to get pictures next time I go. People will say "Look at the crazy kid taking pictures of red woks that look like Hoover Celebrities!" LOL.

Air Freshener directions from the Model 516 Instruction book.

Not sure of the first model that had this....but I just looked at my 512 & it has the Sweet Aire dispenser...as far as I know it is the original em-tor to the vacuum.

Well I never knew that LOL I just looked at my old Kirby and there's the hole right there,, missing the little cap though

Nice Celebrity III! It's amazing what we can do bag wise when in a pinch. I'm using Eureka F & G bags in my Hoover, and I was using a Hoover C bag in my Eureka when I ran out of the F & G bags.

I finished giving the wands, floor/rug tool, and hose a good bath. Almost all scuff marks are gone and everything is sparkly white now. :)

And I just noticed that I spelled organize wrong :(. lol...
