Actually the original 510 handle grip was dark gray plastic, and the cord was dark gray - all the same color as the bumper and headlight trim.

I have seen the GE before, its kinda like the lighter version of the Kenmore Duo. IIRC its quite a bit of power for a little guy. Nice Kirby too!
To bad the 61 or 35 wasn't there to go with the hoses =(
But with you and Rob's luck you will find them. There waiting in closet near you!

What a catch!!!

I'm going to the wrong sales! The Kirby bag looks virtually pristine. That Hamiliton Beach WITH its attachments....how rare is that?! I remember taking a liking to that GE when it was new in the stores. Could I be right in thinking it was sold at Target?

Old Vacuums No Vacuums

Hi Chase Dont feel to bad here on long Island New NY the days of getting old vacuums is just about over. I know what you mean when i see our club members geting such nice machines i think well some day. Well Chase keep up the fine work you sound like a fine young man. The GE was a really cool vac I remember growing up, they where also made and sold in Australia before the GE appliances where taken over by Black & Decker .

I have four GE's in my collection and love them ...

Both of these are US machines I shipped over.

What a wonderful collection of GEs.. I'm anxious to get the one I just found cleaned up and working. I do have a GE upright that I found at a sale some time ago which also needs some love to get working again. For the full-size uprights, what kind of belt do you use? If I recall, the belt pulley coming off of the machine is cone-shaped? And the cleaner calls for a flat-belt. Do you have the tools for any of your GE uprights?

That little burgundy Genie looks very much like the Regina Brush & Beat vacuum that was around the US in the 70s.

GE memories

It's amazing how a couple photographs can dredge up a flood of memories.   I had completely forgotten about these machines until I saw the pics here.


 


I remember when the GE vacuums as in replies 32 & 33 were added to the lineup at Target.  I specifically remember being at the store on Robert St. the day a rep was demonstrating them.   I was impressed enough with the performance and features to be swayed from my infatuation with all things Hoover!  The flat belt and cone shaped shaft were supposed to prevent hair and threads from building up, thus preventing belt slippage.   On the full sized models the lever to switch from rug/floor to attachments closed off the air passage to the front of the cleaner in such a way that less suction was lost than the rear-entry Convertibles at the time.   And to top it off, I was flabbergasted that a vacuum without beater bars could remove embedded grit from a rug so well.

At reply #6 & #7, I love the older Hoover stretch hose for the Convertibles. It’s looks longer!

I have one of those stretch hoses for a rear attachment type convertible. Easily longer than a Tufflex hose. Those Ultraflex hoses were great!
