My mother owned a few vacuum cleaners back in the day , one of which was a GE straight suction canister in avacado green . A few relatives in NC had a few of the Premier Electric brands both straight suction and with the PN. These were pretty common to see back in the 70s. [this post was last edited: 5/14/2020-23:49]

Hi Keither,

I like the mustard colour one the most. I have wanted one for years. We don't often see the mustard with that kind of swivel top. I have only ever seen a few if any. It is almost always the same top as your yellow and chrome model.

I was overjoyed to see it again after so long. Can you upload a photo with the ensemble together?? As always your collection continues to amaze me.

Keep on collecting,

Gary.

Hi Keith! Another set of gorgeous vintage vacs - pristine condition too!

Never noticed the two different sizes of Swivel-Top GEs. What is the primary difference between the two sizes? Size of motor? Bag?

And did one size debut earlier than the other? And yet both sizes were retained by Premier in the 70’s.

Hey Keith,

Groovy '70s cleaners ... is the taupe-colored G-E in your first photo a Model C-8? I had one at one time along with a similar-colored Model C-13. A noticeable difference was that the former lacked a cord reel. If I remember correctly, I saw the C13 featured in a 1968 ad. It could be that the C8 was manufactured the same time going by the Premier catalog page above that displays several different models with various options.

Fyi, both Premier and Hotpoint were subdivisions of G-E. I'm not sure if any Hotpoint SwivelTops were manufactured in the U.S., but below is an Australian ad I found online.

Also, there was an economical SwivelTop called a "lowboy", with a single-stage motor and lacking a cord reel.

Thanks for that reply! There’s my answer: GE had a smaller budget version Swivel-Top with no cord reel....even power nozzle versions! You learn something new everyday at Vacuumland....🙂

You're welcome! 🙂

Another bit of trivia is that the "lowboy" models were identified in a different numeric range as the users manual cover illustrates:

These would make a great retro machine for modern times.

I could easily see a more modern take on this canister with 2 rear outrigger wheels, similar to what What Sunbeam added to the Touch-N-Lock or what Hoover added to their better Celebrity models.

Round vacuums like this aren't stairs friendly.
You can't stand them on end for storage so they take less floor space in a closet.
There's no on board tool storage.
