Well, now that the "Post-Convention" newsletter is almost "in the mail", Sam and I are soon going to be shifting to the Christmas 'holiday' issue. Because there will be no 'convention stuff'... cleaning contests, etc, we're focusing on mini meets, ads, stories, poems, photos, etc. We are also planning something new and different for a newsletter: submitting a favorite recipe for: cookies, cakes, any special holiday 'treat' from your personal recipe box! This could be a nice, 'fun' addition to our 'edition'. So, Christmas is 4 months from TODAY. Consider adding YOUR photos, etc.....
We've already found fantastic vintage, campy, "kitchy" items.Obviously, MY concentration will be HOOVER. But, we DO have a few ads, photos, etc. of other, non-HOOVER cleaning products. So, in order to add 'others', we'll need 'others'.
Here we go............

I don't want to sound like The Grinch, but its FOUR MONTHS away.

This dilutes Christmas.
We can buy Mince Pies at the Petrol Station from June.
They show "Home Alone" and "Home Alone II" on TV in July.
Now, where can I buy a tree that'll last sixteen weeks?

It's a summer heatwave of 36 degrees in Europe.
The hottest August Bank Holiday on record.

Let it snow.
Happy Holidays!

Hello,

I'm sure a lot of work goes into your Newsletters. All of which will be appreciated when the time comes.

But, there is a right time, and a wrong time, to start Xmas.
Perhaps as soon as we've had Halloween, and Guy Fawkes night (Fireworks)? That means Christmas lasts the whole of November, the whole of December, past New Year, into January.

Supermarkets need to order now for Christmas. They don't have Stockrooms of yesteryear. So it goes straight on the shelves when its delivered. That means September.
On Boxing Day they're advertising Summer Holidays and shops are selling Easter Eggs.

I'm sure you can see how, for those of us over 10 years old, its too commercial. Thrust upon us almost all-year. I'm not joking when I say Mince Pies in June. Co-Op Petrol has 'em.

We lose the fun. The spontaneity. Its old and ruined by the time the actual day comes. We become tired of it all and cannot enjoy it.

Besides, I want to savour this very-warm, 39°, glorious, Summer for as long as possible. The beach, sailing, summer holiday, barbecues...

The years go fast enough as it is.

I meant no offence.

I appreciate that, Alan, as,

initially, I did take offense to it... great offense. But, thank you.
I, too, detest the "early rush". Halloween things are in the stores. Christmas WAS something special to look forward to. I despise the "rush". I decorate my 12 room home extensively for a lot of holidays. especially for Christmas. It was our family home. Everyone used to come here. It can be very sad, especially now with both of my parents AND my brother being deceased.
I love to entertain for the holidays, and am pleased when my friends enjoy this festive place.
I hate to rush things as well.
But, in order to prepare a holiday publication, we must think, collaborate starting soon.
That is the only reason to even let Christmas enter my thoughts.
It's been 80, 90 degrees (Fahrenheit). Soon, the weather will shift. Our grandfather had a bakery, and, several of us still make a lot of those wonderful things we learned to make so long ago.
Christmas edibles will be made. But, at the right time: not a minute too soon'
Again, thank you, Alan. Now, let's turn the page and put this behind us.

John
