If you're an early or late night reader I suggest you get a cuppa
I've been meaning to do this post for a while but just cba but here it is now.
What happened was the original U2716 from Feb 1993 (That I picked up for £15) died. Now not a horrific burn out or anything but i'll just repeat it for those who haven't seen.
One day I came to use her and she started up really slow with a gradual hint of electrical burning smell, turned it off grabbed the trusty U2812 to finish off the job.
I just put it aside in my room to take a better look at one day, and so that day finally came. The usual stripping it down blah blah blah...got to the motor already one of the bearings sounds kaput. Removed the carbon brushes...Oh dear..very VERY short. Armature was kaput so just thought "f**k it, it's pointless trying to save it :/ "
And then I nicked the spare good parts and there was just the poor U2716 shell.
~~Skipping ahead a few months....~~
I was in two minds whether to go for a brand new motor for £14..I did with some persuasion.
Got it, it needed the commutator sorting so thought "Bugger it, ill sort that out some time ill just nick the motor out of the U1050."
Popped that one in that now has a brand new fan (So much better
)
Now onto the reason why i say "The 1993 U2716 Lives! kind of.." The shell is from Feb 1993 (Hose some motor parts and not the tools!) The motor is from the 19th week of 1997 and the height adjuster is from I have no idea lol..(Because I bought that separate as it din't have it) at least it's genuine. The tools i *cough* "borrowed" from my 1994 U2812. Reason being is because I don't use the tools on my U2812 as I don't want to risk snapping the bag door!
So the new motor will go into the U2716 and will become my daily driver when I get some new brushes. Some pictures ~ Also sorry that this has been a long post! Iv'e spent roughly £60 on this and some more to come for the brushes.
Mhm yes I know what you're all thinking. Crazy! (Or probably something more than that!) Ah well I'm happy
Thanks for reading ~ Emma
