Fred!

You are so right !! Unfortunately several years ago someone with sticky fingers helped themselves to two sets of Filtex tools I had, both were in the leatherette bags and one set was brand new!! " No one here!!" but I do have a good idea where they are!! I bought out a small vac shop here a while back, and got several Filtex tools, but none as nice as the ones I had, this small shop had old stuff from the 60s and 70s in it, the family was trying to get rid of it, so I got a truck full of parts for a hundred dollars, I got some new switches, armatures, etc for all kinds of vacs. But for some reason there was a lot of Filtex stuff, 2 tanks, hose ends etc.

Super Dooper Cool, Hans! I MUST have one...some day.
I am lucky to have a nice Model 51 with vari-flex hose, wands, floor nozzle and a brown Bakelite crevice tool I suspect is from an upright toolset. Note the sideways bevel on a relatively square (as opposed to slim crevice-y) cross section - ?

It may be of interest to some that the 51's metal floor nozzle is coated all over in a molded shell layer of brown rubber.

Underside

Of the Filtex Rug Tool. Check out that tooling. No rivets, just tooled aluminum and screws. That is the adjustable rollex part underneath.

Just for more nozzle fun...

Two shades of Hammertone Blue MONITOR aka Firestone/Kingston tools. The aluminum 'J' wands (which have distinctive upper and lower sections) are also hammertoned and the floorbrush & rug nozzles slip on to them upside down with a peg that allows 360 degree swivels in a ring channel. There is a knurled wheel that lowers the brush strip. The upholstery and rubber dusting brush are twist-in friction fits.

I love Filtex tools!
I think the floor brush is one of the best nozzles there is. It, IMHO, beats out the Lux tool hands down. I'm lucky to have a couple of sets that are stored in the dark away from prying eyes! I also have 3 different filtex central units to play with. If I could just get used to the filtex rug tool....

WOW! How cool! Thanks so much for the pics! Ive always been facinated by the different rug tools, especially the metal ones. Have never seen the Apex model with the wheels,,how cool! I Remember a neighbor in the 70s had a blue 50s Hoover Connie with the blue tools, and the blue wheeled rug nozzle they used in their basement. They wouldnt let me use it, but i sure remember wanting to!
I have used the Lewyt rug tool, and remember it being excellent.
Have never used most of these,,,would love a set of Filtex tools for my Central Vac! Oh well, i can dream!

Hans this is a really fun thread!  It would be interesting to know which straight suction rug tool really did the best job.

Hmm, very interesting tools there!

I am surprised, though, that Filtex wasn't sued by Electrolux over the barefloor tool they have though; that looks almost like an exact copy of the Lux tool.

Fred, your polished Filtex tools look GREAT! Tania's polisher friend in Wisconsin did a wonderful job bringing the shine back....

Hans, thanks for posting all these great pics. I love seeing old vintage vacuum tools, they were so much better designed in the old days.

My electrolux flip brush still works better on my wool persian area rugs than the power bar..Something to be said for the old fashion way of doing things.

I used the Elux bare-floor tool on the nylon loop carpeting in my bedroom (one might say that such carpeting deserved to be destroyed) and destroyed it by dragging the floor tool across it with the gleaner on. I thought I was doing a good job, but I was combing the fibers to shreds. I was probably four years old.
My older sister said I was "overvacuuming" the rug. Like such a concept would ever be possible!

<span style="font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;">Wow, Fred. That is one beautiful set of Filtex tools. Polishing is really worthwhile. Just beautiful!</span>

<span style="font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: small;">And.... don't you wonder if Lucy ever REALLY vacuumed? She doesn't seem like she would've been interested....</span>
