Saturday morning, I found a very nice Dial A Matic model 1130 at a thrift store for $19.95. More than I'd usually pay for a Dial A Matic, if I'd even bother to pick it up. But this one is in exceptionally nice condition. Usually they're pretty beat to hell...scuffed, etc. So I grabbed it.

I also went to a Retro shop in town, where this Saniway had been calling my name for a few months. I had seen it on 4 different visits, and thought $95 was way too much. But I went in today and asked how low they'd go. So I got it for $75. It was $75 well spent. This cleaner is in **gorgeous** shape. I took it apart and wiped it down, polished the handle and floor tool, washed the inner bag and filter. I had to rig-up a bag, because I don't have any... And it purrrrrs.

The Saniway

Came with all of its tools, including a Felt floor pad that snaps into the rug nozzle, to be used on HWFs. I loooove the felt floor pad! It also came with a bag of moth crystals, in case I get the urge to de-moth a closet or something.

Nice Finds, Fred!

Especially the Saniway--what a beautiful machine. And a full set of attachments is frosting on the cake! Congrats!

Fred that Saniway is just beautiful!! I would say that it has had a very easy life!! Terry

Fred, I absolutely love that Dial-A-Matic 1130! Now you have a replacement for the 1130 you sold me. I would definitely hold onto it.

Hahaha!

Thanks for the reminder that I sold that, Karl.
I kind of thought I sold that 1130 before I moved to NC, but didn't remember. I thought maybe I just never unpacked it. Ha!
((That's how much stuff I have to unpack yet--I don't remember half of what I have.))

But I'm glad you have that one, and I'm glad that I now have another!

Thanks Tania! So good to see you posting on here!

I'm in LOVE with this Saniway.

Wow, Fred....

Just ONE of these would have been a great find, but both?! That Saniway is truly beautiful. It's very elegant looking. Did Royal make these and use the Saniway name to sell them? Or did they make them for some third party that sold them?

Does it show the CITY on the plate?

Does anybody know the story of Saniways??

Saniway...

From what I understand, Royal made the cleaners to a third party's specifications.
Not sure if it was a door-to-door type of thing, or if they were in vac shops, or both.

The tag on the bottom of the cleaner states the company name is "Vac-U-Way" of Toledo, OH.

I spoke with Tania this morning, and she said my cleaner is probably from the real late 60s or the early 70s. She also said the later versions of this cleaner had a corrugated vinyl hose, similar to what the earlier chrome-dome Rainbows had, but Saniway hoses were red. Later versions also had a more powerful motor.

Yeah, I'd pay that for a vacuum in such complete conditi

Wow, Fred. Set next to the Royal really shows off it's Space Pod styling. Although the Royal is the parent the heir-apparent Saniway displays refinements in every area of construction...except for the tool storage clips.

Man, it's a good thing.......

....I'm not a SOCIALIST!! Otherwise, I be expecting you to be sharing these incredible finds!!! lol As my Dad would say, "You done good!" Congrats, Fred!!

SANIWAY

Ive had several of these over the years, Did you know the history of Saniway, I found out from Cyrus Fox,he was the first distributor for Vac-U-Way corp. The man who started SANIWAY was an Airway distributor, as was Cyrus, Cyrus wife was from Asheville N.C. , and wanted to go back there as they were living in Atlanta, This other man, whom I can't remember his name, came to Cyrus and told him he was forming a new company,he was buying the rights to the Kingston canister and was going to call it the Saniway, and if Cyrus would work for him he would give him the state of N.C.Cyrus is gone but his daughter still runs SAniway of Asheville...of course the Saniway is gone too, the original model which was a carbon copy of the Kingston was made thru 63 then the model you have the markIV came out, first it had flat wheels then ball casters later, also a nylaflex hose was used from 73 till the last year 76, the owner of the company died suddenly and his wife closed up shop...so went the saniway.

Hans, thanks so much for the history of the Saniway! Very interesting. In the later machines did they every add a power nozzle? Terry
