Anything like Fair Fax?

This looks like the same idea as a Fair Fax, which is Canadian, is Silver King the American version?

I have a Fair Fax, strange machine, but a good one. However, I have just the vacuum cleaner, not the wet/dry gear, nor as a polisher.

Nice!

Looks like it was givn quite a workout!

My feeling is that it was a vacuum cleaner used in a school, or other public place. No doubt it's been through a lot. I'd love to see some pictures after the clean up. Certainly can use a new handle. Did you get an instruction book?

I think Silver King was an industrial machine. I lived in the western suburbs of Illinois, but don't know where Lyons is.

I also love the Elecrtolux B- 8, looks like the one that went with the model G.

As I said, Enjoy!

Silver King..

Thompson and sons inc, They made a zillion different versions as well as the Silver Knight Swivel Top, Tania is the absolute expert on these.

Thanks

Is there anything special I need to know about how to use it to pick up water? Does it work like a Shop Vac?

You should definitely know that these do not have a float shutoff like a Shop Vac, so if you suck up too much water, it will suck into the motor. And these use a thru-foo motor unlike the later models that are bypass cooled (vacuuming air never touches upper part of motor, uses separate cooling fan and vents on machine), personally, that combined with the woven hose, I would not recommend using this machine for wet pickup, and I wouldn't personally use any of my vintage Silver King machines for it either. In an emergency if it was all I had, I might, but I have more things I'd feel comfortable using before that, including newer models of Silver King.

My Silver King

I got it for $13 at a Thrift Store. It only has the vinyl hose and upholstery tool. The handle on the top is missing. I am assuming it broke off at some point. It runs very strong and quiet. It needs a good spa treatment, but will make a good garage vac. I am assuming that standard attachments will fit this?

I’ll try to get some pics.

Tim

I've heard of, but never seen the ball valve, Tania apparently has one. But no, it wasn't a standard thing, and I've not even seen it in the manual. Also, you use the electric hose for wet pickup, with the way the hoses are made, there's no real danger of the water getting to the wiring.
