Hidden away inside...

...are the tools. You can lift off the upper lid while the machine is running because the tool caddy seals the bag compartment. Neat!

And finally:

A video!

I forgot to say that's a beautiful machine you have there, Rob! Looks to be in lovely condition, what a great find! Lucky you were close enough to save it!

If you come across a spare Sensotronic 3 hose across the pond, let me know. I have the US version, called Electronic 1000, a nice machine that did not catch on here.

Nice score on the NIB vac!

So somewhere between 83 & 88 the chrome wands disappeared it looks like.

Nextly... peel that sticker off I know you're just itching to, resistance is futile!!! Just think how good it will feel once the deed is done and that awful weight has been lifted from your shoulders

...

These pages are taken from a brochure Hoover sent me the first time I wrote to them - I think I was 6 at the time! Their Marketing Education Manager wrote me a lovely reply, and sent me several product brochures, 2 Hoover pens and 2 Hoover keyrings!

Anyway, these are the final incarnation of the Sensotronic range, before they were replaced by the Alpina:

Sorry they're a little pixelated, I had to compress the original file, which was huge, and hi-res pics don't really like being compressed!

Now in the ad above for the model 300 it lists a power nozzle but not for the other two models yet the pictures appear to have the same brushroll.. or am I missing something

Only Systems 400 and 500 came with the power nozzle. Are you confusing 'power nozzle' with '1500w power boost', which is listed as a feature for the System 300 and 300 Audio?

I don't understand why Hoover didn't a) offer the expensive all-bells-and-whistles 300 Audio with the power nozzle, or b) include the Audio voice processor on the 400 and 500....maybe it would have made the resulting model too expensive. The 300 and 300 Audio do have takeoff-sockets for power nozzles, which presumably could be bought separately - so consumers could upgrade if they could afford it!

All models without the power nozzle came with the suction-only Contour Head.

Hoover Sensotronics...!!!

Wow, you three have been busy & quiet!!! nice vacs there, I remember working at Trident when these where launched along with the Logic washeres, Hoover threw evening events all over the country to train staff on these super new products...free booze n nosh...One of the "Hoover Demo Ladies" had a bitch of a job to open the top cover and show the tool compartment...after three attempts a very loud camp voice (not me)shouted from the back "Gawd, gimmee me electrolux anyday!!!every time I see one of these vacs I see that scenario...LOL

Here`s the System 50 beasty...hey Jack have you got the video footage of this from Al`s??? It really ripped that dirt up!!!

Hi Mike, great to hear from you - hope you're well?

"Gawd, gimmee me electrolux anyday!!!" - a Hoover demo lady said that?! Take her to the Tower! Off with her head!

Your System 50 is beautiful - I've had the pleasure of trying out two of those now, yours and Ryan Campbell's. That powerhead is a force to be reckoned with! I'd love to get hold of a System 50 someday. I've got the footage of yours in action from the Hooverland Meet at Al's - I'll upload it this evening if I can. I've uploaded several of the videos Al and I did of your cleaners on my YouTube channel - have you seen them yet? There's a few more of those to come too.

And speaking of Sensotronics...I've got another one which does just that... ;)

I Feel the urge to learn!

Well, now that me and rob own a sensotronic, I feel the need to learn more about them.

Jack - your system 20 looks stunning - what a great find and a truly immaculate piece to add to your collection.

Below is some of the Sensotronics from the S3450 series.

What is the model number of your stunning Sensotronic Mike?

Cheers
Paul

HMmm seems like a trend with Model names going on here

Ours is a system 3 and its features are the same as the 2nd series System 30 which in turn are similar to the later system 300s features.

SO

Was there a system 5 from the first series to match Mikes 50 machine and the 500?

I guess there will also be a series 2 to match Jacks 20 and the 200?

Shame they didnt use exact colour matches for the Tubopowers,

Only one I can see is our ST and TP's both mid range matching in Burgundy.

Sensotronic powernozzle

This was supplied with the System 400 and 500; optional extra for the red System 300, if I remember correctly.

It could not be fitted to the Audio System 300, due to there being no power-feed wiring from the cleaner's main pcb along the power-hose (only a remote control hose).

The brochures seem to show Systems 100 and 200 with a little flip lid on the cleaner's control panel. I don't remember if this was present on UK shop-floor models. It may have only been on Continental versions. I think this was where the power take-off socket was supposed to be situated.

Systems 1 to 55.
Be cautious of full bags/blocked suction hose/ dirty filter. The tool caddy can split and crack (our System 2 did). The motor intermediate fan vanes (plastic) can and do melt with prolonged poor airflow.

Vintagehoover:
Any chance of a video of the Audio System 300 speaking? I haven't heard it since 1988 on 'Tomorrow's World'.

S3132: System 3 or 4 ???

There seems to be discrepancy in the model numbers.

As Chestermike says, I'm sure System 3 was S3130 (ours was System 2, S3128).

Rob's user manual says S3132, yet that would make it a System 4??? Any ideas?
