The Sensotronic Mystery

How do Guys.

Have just had a gander at the servie info and appear that Hoover didnt number them completely consecutively!

For some reason they are as follows:

S3126 Series 1 in Cologne Red/Helena Blue
S3128 Series 2 in Annabella Green/Light Annabella Green
S3130 Series 4 in Honey Beige/Black Umber
S3132 Series 3 in Helena Brown/Black Umber (apparrently! - looks Maroon to me)
S3134 System 5 in Black Umber

with features:

S3128 - Economy Lamp and Speed Module
S3130 - Economy Lamp, Speed Module and 2 wire Power Hose
S3132 & 3134 - Remote Control, Good Performance and Pilot Lamps, speed Module and 3 wire Power Hose.

I assume that the S3126 was simply a motor in a plastic box, as its features dont warrent a mention in the Service Info!

Also, here's a mystery solved for you Rob:

'From February 1983 the cleaning tolls have been changed from Honey Beige (TF) to Black Umber (VG) with the exception of Model S3126 where they have been changed to Helena Blue Light (YP)'.

Hence why the tools and Hose are a weird light/white colour on the Instruction manual cover.

Yipppeeee......I am learning my Sensotronics! Cheers for the model info Mike - yep I am pretty sure there will be a spreadsheet produced in the near future!

Cheers
Paul

Ladies and Gentlemen, for your delectation and delight, may I have the supreme pleasure of introducing the cleaner which talks back - the Hoover Sensotronic Audio System 300!

Here's an interesting point: The brochure pages I posted above rate the 300 Audio at 1200w, with a 1500w boost...but mine has a max manual speed of 1000w, with 1200w boost. The auto power sensing usually runs it at around 600-700w on most of my carpets.

It's strange to clean with it set to Auto, because the motor's constantly changing speed!

This one dates from September 1989 - I would have just celebrated my 3rd birthday when it left the production line!

Now that's a vacuum. You must you tube it so we can hear what it sounds like when it talks..btw does it have an English accent? Now where was I in 86.. .ummmm had just been transferred from Vancouver to Calgary that year as it rolled of the production line.

This one is actually an Italian machine, so it'll speak in Italian! I haven't managed to coax a single word out of it yet - perhaps it's a little shy! The British version does indeed feature a woman's voice speaking in a well-bred English accent - I did have some mp3 clips of a UK example speaking, but I can't find them anywhere now. I remember one of the four messages it gives is:

4-note chime...'Hose is clogged.' *pause* 'Clear the blockage.'

Very strict and dominatrix-like, no 'please' or 'thank you', lol

It'll also tell you that it's bag needs changing...I'm not sure what the other two messages are. Hoover obviously realised that a vacuum cleaner that demanded constant attention like a needy, whiny child would annoy people, so the voice processor is designed to come on only when strictly necessary, ie, when there's a fault with the machine.

With regards to Rolls-Rapide's comment about the compatibility of a powerhead - I'd assumed that the Audio was able to accept a powerhead because its remote handle is equipped with a fully-connected take-off socket for one. I have no idea if the wiring is continued once the hose reaches the machine itself. I don't own a powerhead, so I couldn't confirm if it'll work or not. Is it possible that an Italian-spec machine was actually designed to accept one?

Sensotronics!!! & Puzzlement

This is a puzzle, I lifted my numbers from the service manual as well??, the series 1, models 1,2,3,4,5 as far as I remember had the cream hoses, which where so cumbersome especially with the big handle!!! which why I was surprised to see these tools & hose with it!! are the tools from a later model perhaps??

Paul, my black Sensotronic is from series two, its the system model 50, model S3328......here is my other model from series four, and its the system 50, model S3456...this was the SURPRISE COLOUR we couldnt work out from the books etc until Jack solved the mystery by taking the lid off to reveal the tools, its true colour was blue...it had been wrapped & stored in a black plastic bag and had "FADED" to the greenish model on the outside!!!truely UNIQUE...lol

System 50, model S3456, with the larger power nozzle 300, which is nowhere near as powerful and the previous smaller model but had a bigger brushroll!!!

Audio Senso!!!

Wow Jack, glad you managed to bag one of these, I also wondered why the audio wasnt on the TOL models of the range!!!

At this point we see the models become more compact, and easier to use & store for the smaller UK homes, and then later changed to last sensotronic?? the SC060 model!!!

Here are the audio commands so you can await her sexy voice!!! she purrs:

Looking forward to seeing & hearing the vids!!!!, Mike

Oh dear, oh dear...

Mike, the humour survives even through my attempts to understand via Google's language translator, which tells me:

Italian:
'Please to ignite to me'
'My bag is imbottita full, empty please my bags'
'To press my button a more time, I love it'
'To stop to be in feet on my rope, she it person orrida'
'This house is dirty, dirty she the s***'

French:
'Light me, please'
'My bag is stuffed complete, empty my bags please'
'Press on my button once again, I like it'
'Stop being upright on my horrible cord, you it nobody'
'This house is crasseuse, you it dirty b****'

If anything google's fumbling attempts at coherance enhance the phrases! My favourite is 'Stop being upright on my horrible cord, you it nobody'!!!

I can't stop laughing!

how I love Sensotronics

Here's the post of last year with hoover brochre featuring the 2nd series of sensotronics, 1983.I see that the hose in yours has been replaced, the original one was much heavier and less flexible than the replacement.
Enjoy. I'm trying to scan pictures of the brocgures showing later sensotronic series but my scanner isn't collaborative today, I beg your pardon,
Tommy

BRILLIANT!!!!

LMFAO too!

The same one that appeals to rob, also appeals to me.

The thought of tugging a cleaner around the house and then it sddenly says 'This house is dirty, dirty she the s***' - Brilliant.
Love it.

Cheers for reposting the link to the other thread Tommy. Every single picture is now on my computer - complete history of the 1st generation of Sensotronics and all the other classics too.

Will spend the evening looking through them.

Paul

The 80's were the era of "talking" cars, clocks and I guess vacuums as well. Chrysler was probably the worst for it in their LeBarons with the ever so new digital speedo's etc. Your door is ajar, no it's a door stupid woman.

My partner and I went on a weekend junket back around 85 to Vegas whereupon in Caesars gift shop I saw a had to have Seiko clock shaped like a pyramid that talked the time.. Still have it btw, cost me a fortune at the time.

Spoken Command for the Audio Cleaner were:

1."Hose is clogged. Clear the blockage." (Heard on BBC programme, 'Tomorrow's World')
2."Bag is not correctly fitted." (Heard on 'Tomorrow's World').
3. "Bag is full."
4."Have motor checked by qualified service technician" (or some such statement!)
