Restored 1945 Kirby Model 505 vacuum cleaner. This was the first Kirby that Scott & Fetzer produced after the war. This is an exceptionally nice and complete example with original attachments and boxes. Machine is all original except the bag which is reproduction. Original rubber wheels, black Bakelite belt lifters, molded handle grip, black rubber trim, phenolic Emtor door, NOS vintage horsehair brush roll, original black molded Belden cord plus additional gray molded Belden cord. Rare 505 floor polisher, Ethocel attachments, wands, and coupler, original black cloth hose. Machine was totally disassembled down to every screw and cleaned, polished, new bearings, the works! Runs like an absolute dream, just how it came to the original owner's door in 1945. Has never sucked up dust since being restored. Bag is high quality reproduction with the original extra wide bag hanger. Also comes with a partial bottle of SweetAire (though not period correct to this model). This is likely one of the nicest and most complete examples of this rare and early Kirby model you're likely to find. Comes from a clean, smoke-free home. Excess shipping fees will be refunded once the item ships. Don't hesitate to contact me with any questions. Happy bidding!

Beautiful example. Sure hope you get a good amount for it. One lunatic on eBay is asking $1000 for a 505 and one is delusional at $2,250. I didn't notice a reserve price on your auction, please consider adding one so someone doesn't accidentally get your gorgeous machine for a song.

Thanks for the compliment. I didn't put a reserve in hopes that a few fair bids would come in and the market could determine the value. I know 505s come up for sale occasionally, but I've never seen one this complete sell, so it's hard to say what it's worth. I do know it's worth a hell of a lot more than $1.48. Whoever entered that bid must be delusional. The bag alone was $200!

So we can all get along....Dysonman

I happen to know the "Lunatics" you mention about other 505's for sale.

Both are great guys and BOTH are members of this forum!

Something is only worth one someone will give you for it!
And you question these 2 guys and their ability to set the cost on their own items as lunatics is a bit strong!

Looking at Coffee Can Mans 505; while stunning, doesn't seem to be on the same level of restoration as the other two more expensive units. I am NOT going to disparage his unit or him to prove my point, but from what i can see in all 3 sets of pictures that's how i would see it!

What i will say is it takes DAMN big... um guts to sell such a great and complete machine with no reserve!

Best of Luck CCM!

Larry,

I find it a bit rude to pick apart a machine I personally restored by hand. While it doesn't have a machine-buffed shine, it is well restored and shines just fine (could probably use a touch up, sure). For the record, one of those other machines WAS mine, I sold it in as found condition, and was obviously well restored. However, I would bet my entire collection that you won't find another one with everything mine has to go with it.

It's not really all that surprising that someone bid more than $25. An original round-end Belden cord alone is worth at least 3 times that, and I have 2 of them included with this machine.

1. What you use for brains I flush down the toilet.
2. Yet again I am asking for you to please show vacuumland members a similar machine you restored = I know you cannot come close to my work as you ignored my challenge to show up at the VCCC this year with your machine when you were babbling about your buddy crying he got ripped off on eBay for issuing a refund for a damaged vacuum he sold, OOOH, wait you could not go to the VCCC as they kicked your sorry butt out of it years ago and to get back at the VCCC you invent your own convention. As far as I am concerned your lies should be put to an end and you should be banned from Vacuumland.
3. And yet again you are showing you ignorance and stupidity with you remoarks as I have sold a number of the 505 machines for the price on eBay. And to think you act like you know what you are talking about.
4. You should spend you time wisely and sell more vacuums peple donated to your museum on eBay - as that show your true character, selling vacuums for profit that people donated to your museum... Or maybe you should continue to sell the vacuums people donate to you behind closed doors so it is not as public as you essential are stealing from the people who donated to your museum.

Wow what a fine example. Beautiful restoration. Someone is going to be very satisfied with their purchase for sure!

I think that sweet aire bottle is from around a 512 era as it's completely identical to the new in box one I have for my 512.

Good luck with the sale!

Thanks for the compliment Brandon! I think you're right about the sweet-aire. While the product existed in the 40s as a room freshener, Kirbys did not have a plug for it until the 509 or 510 I believe.

Someone stole this for only $310, thanks to a few malicious "collectors" spreading rumors (blatant lies) that the auction was rigged via a Facebook group that I do not have access to. If that were true, I would have made sure it brought more than it did. My 510 brought more than this, it's truly disheartening.

This will probably be the last most of you hear from me. I don't need to surround myself with people who will turn on you in an instant, and propagate slanderous messages to sabotage an auction that they can't afford to bid on. I've always been helpful and generous, as we all share a common interest here. I will not tolerate people harassing me, tarnishing my reputation, or fabricating lies about me for their own personal gain. My other 2 auctions have been ended early, as I will not be handing out any more machines for free this week, and certainly will not be listing my spare Bugeye as I had intended. I now see why there are people out there that would rather scrap things than sell them to dishonest collectors. Those of you who wish to contact me in the future know how to do so.

Jealousy is a nasty, nasty thing.

You are absolutely right!

I'm very sorry that this has happened to you. I always enjoyed your posts. I've never sold anything on Ebay..not sure I want to . I almost have a few times .
It is true: Rumors, lies, etc are very bad...dirty things. RUMORS, can be very hurtful. So many of therm are not really true.
Best of luck to you.
John

It's also amazing how

people win items on Ebay honestly. Some get a fair price, some get a pleasant surprise, some lose out. I'm certainly not referring to your Kirby, there's a lot of stuff there, and , in good condition.
Some people want to buy something for almost nothing, but want to sell for a fortune. Some decide that a trade is better...not really asking the other party, just assuming.
I've gotten some gre3atthings on ebay, others, not so great. Sad, but true
