Robotic vacuums??????????

Who of you out there has a robotic vacuum. I have just been testing a few and found that in genral they are rubbish.


From a engineering point of you how could they not be you can't compaire a machine the size of a stack of dinner plates to clean as well as a regular vacuum but I was taken in by the hype and all of the review s saying how good they are.


 


The next thing that I also found was that a alrge majority of them do not vacuum at all. they act like a mini carpet sweeper.


 


I found the Electrolux one did the best of all of them including the roomba.


 


I can understand it as a way to maintain the carpets   during the day but never replace my normal vacuums.


 


I was not carrying out my evaluations for a manufacturer( like we normally do) but for our business deciding on which to stock, at the price they sell for here ( they sell for as much as a top model dyson or miele, I would.t recommend them at all

There's very little suction. I have a Roomba Scheduler. It worked for about 15 minutes before all the long dog hair in our house totally tangled up the brushroll and swivel castor and drive wheels. Took me nearly 15 minutes to get all that out then it just happened over again. So I put it away about a year ago to gather dust.

They are a cute gimick never meant to replace a full sized corded vacuum. Roomba even says so on their website. What they will do is surface litter and pet hair to help tidy up in between vacuuming.

I think one would be fun if for nothing else but to cause the dog to have a nervous breakdown.
With two American Eskimo dogs in the house, I vacuum everyday, sometiems twice a day.

I just think it's just a gadget for yuppies, for the most part, they're not actually vacuums, they're just carpet sweepers with a motor and a set of sensors to guide itself about, they're only sold for the entertainment value, and for a yuppie to say "look at this futuristic robotic vacuum cleaner I just got!!".... :S

I'd rather have an Asimo...

My sister bought one for her in between vacuuming and thought it was wonderful so I can over to watch it run. Well it never picked up the dog hair off the rugs, it scattered stuff, it didn't really cover the whole room not to mention its a noisey little thing. But she said oh don't you just love it, look at how wonderful it is. Im like yep what ever, time to adjust your glasses and stick with your Convertible. Now I would like to find a cheap used one just to watch the dogs chase it.

I have the Electrolux and it does a fair job of picking up the dust and fluff from carpets and flooring. It even got grit out of a berber type carpet that gets cleaned with a Dyson DC07.

I had a Mk I Roomba that was a complete load of rubbish. The plastic was cheap 'n' nasty (flimsy and became electrostatically charged, attracting dust). The dust was flicked around the vinyl floor. Hopeless on plusher carpets. The virtual wall actually fell apart (rotten plastic). Battery lost its capacity. Tyre split. Brushes had to be regularly cleaned. Complete load of rubbish.

My brother had the Mk II Roomba and that wasn't much better.

The Electrolux is the better machine, by far. It conducts a degree of room mapping and is quite elegant in the execution of its program.

They definitely interesting to watch! But i do like to vacuum..
I am interested by Neato though.. So if anybody would like to buy my Electrolux trilobite za1, let me know!

When my sister bought her new house about 6 years ago my brother gave her a Rumba. She promptly gave her Kirby away and said "This is all I'll never need." So for the past 6 years all the carpet in her house (and there is a lot) has only been Rumba'ed.

Could you imagine going over it now with a quality vac? You'd probably clog the bag after just a few sweeps. She said she's happy with the results. She has had to replace the battery in the thing twice, but it's still going.

So what does she get for us the next Christmas? A Rumba! We tried it out on our kitchen floor(hard tile) and it did do a pretty good job. But on any kind of carpet it just kind of acts as a lint catcher. And lo and behold there is an air filter inside that needs cleaning (well it's a kind of a screen). I wonder how many people miss cleaning that like they do the filters in the Dysons?

I have a Roomba and love it. I have a scheduler and it comes out and vacuums while I'm at work every day. If you spill something, or have pets, this is not the vac for you, you still need a good powerful upright. But if you use it every day, it does a good job of keeping the carpet and kitchen floor clean, or at least free of debris.
