Was vacuuming today with my Riccar 1700 canister and the hose split!!! AAAAhhhhhhhh!!! No abuse, machine was purchased as a refurb from an authorized Riccar/ Simplicity dealer about 9 months ago. The Riccar 1700 canister has a long hose probably 7' or 8' with all electronic controls on handle for suction regulation, power head and suction unit on/off. The top of the hose has an accordian on it to protect the hose from certain bends, etc. 90% of the time when storing this unit, the hose is disconnected from power head to prevent any damage.

All electric functions are fine but hose has a big slit under accordian near top of hose. Anyone have any ideas how to remove the accordian so I can try to service the hose? Looks like there is a slot to fit a flat head screwdriver in there but I didn't have any luck disengaging the accordian with the screwdriver gently so I don't break any more plastic.
Here is a picture of the machine. I'll work on a close up of the hose!

Thanks!

That looks a bit of a swine of a job to do - apparently Riccar modified these hoses so that the new ones dont have this problem. GoVacuum sell these hoses for $200, and say they are modified against the problem you have - see link.
Did the dealer not give any warranty with this cleaner? Although we dont get Riccars this side of the pond, I am led to believe that they are supposed to be very high quality, better than Miele, and so am surprised this has broken. Having seen the price of a new hose, I can see why you might want to have a go at repairing it though. Will Duck tape not suffice until you can buy a new hose?

I have a couple of used hoses for the 1700/1800 if you are interested? They'd have to be shipped from North Dakota... But, I would talk to your dealer first, they should be able to get you a replacement.. Most Riccar dealers will stand behind their NEW and LIKE NEW products until they can't stand on their own wheels anymore.

Hi,

The machine was given a 6 month warranty. I'm quite sure its over 6 months old that we have had it, just not sure by how much. Haven't had chance to research and find reciepts yet.

As far as tape, with the accordian in place the way it is, I can't really access the hose at all in that area to do any work to it. I hate the look and working with duct tape, so I'd probably try electrical tape first. I was wondering if removing handle screws and disassembling handle if the accordian would separate automatically and I could work on the hose that way?

Thanks for the help, when I get home from work, I'll try to repost a close up picture.

I appreciate the picture, I'm a little confused that it doesn't show the protective accordian on top of the hose? Is this yet an even older version of my hose?

Quite rightly so as well, the cleaner you bought from them was expensive and a very good American brand, so I would have expected that they would have helped you out. I presume they have agreed to help you out with a percentage of the cost of a new hose, or they have agreed to repair the old one for you?

The way I understood it from them is that they are going to order a new one and pick up the cost.

I'm definitely a regular customer, they recognize me. I brought in the suction unit with hose which has their shop sticker on it, and I brought in my purchase receipt from when I bought from them in December 2011, so they know I'm not trying to get anything over on them. First he looked around the back for one and said he would have to order one and they would take care of it for me.
