Question about Latest Hoovers

I was on their website and noticed they only have ONE bagged upright (the windtunnel anniversary or something like that - all of the rest of their vacuums are bagless? UGH, WHY??? In their entire lineup they have TWO bagged vacuums, a canister and an upright. Yet, on Amazon, I see the T series, which looks cool to me (at least the bag changing) I like how it locks into place...I'm assuming they must have discontinued these since they are no longer on their site. I didn't see the Tempo either (I think that's bagged). I can't get over how they have so many different models of bagless vacuums, and hardly any bagged ones. My Shark is 3 years old now ....It's been a good vacuum for me but there is no way I'm EVER getting another bagless.

Sadly I don't think a group of our size boycotting hoover would be noticed by hoover. It would probably be more effective if you emailed hoover and expressed your displeasure to customer support.

Despite the fact that I might be one of the few collectors on this site who enjoys modern vacuums and even bagless machines, none of hoover's currrent line interests me. It is almost entirely comprised of machines designed to chase a trend set by dyson, shark, or irobot. I miss when hoover set the trend.

I was at Walmart last night and looked at the vacuums and I saw from a distance some new Sharks. As I got closer I saw they were Hoover. Ok not original at all. The looked like a very cheapened version of the Shark. I think I will called them the Shart. hahaha and here folks we have the Hoover Shart... In all honesty you know they will sell because the Shark is currently the hot item everyone wants.

The machines that are already made and out on sales floors are not going to matter. Research. development, marketing, etc. are the targets. Boycotting can help move mountains,, if done right.... at the right time and place.
We could all boycott a lot of things..........................

I must dissent

Though I am not a bagless person, and I have not used any of the aforementioned machines.
The New Hoover React, kinda looks like a Shark, seems like a pretty cool machine.

The technology that allows it to automatically adjust brush speed to the surface is pretty neat. I will let time tick a little while before I label it as junk.

I just picked up a UH30600 and its an excellent machine for $100. Tons of airflow, reasonable amount of suction and it is just a fun vacuum to use. Nice to have the beater disengage on a model at this price point.

I absolutely agree with the statement above. I have no idea if the new react machines are any good or not, and I did not intend to label them junk. The automatic brush speed adjustment sounds interesting, and I like how they are multicyclonic (with a dyson-esqe metal shroud). They also featue a smartphone app, which while intriguing I don't consider necessary.

I was merely pointing out that they appear to be "reacting" to shark with the upright line and to dyson with the cordless line. Although bissell came up with the "upright with a lift away canister" idea hoover only implemented a similar system after shark had gained popularity with their line of "lift away" uprights. Now some of the react uprights also feature the ability to ue the machine in canister mode with the powerhead, just like some shark models have for a few years.

Everyone always copies the market leader. Shark got popular by comparing themselves to Dyson - for a lower price. Dyson got popular by being the 'far, far better Fantom", which was true. Fantom got popular because of their uniqueness (to the USA - Europe already had Dyson) and their infomercial. Everyone always copies each other. What will be the new 'flavor of the month' tomorrow? It's nothing new. GE copied Air-Way's swivel top, and then Eureka said "me too". Hoover copied Air-Way's disposable bag, then everyone else said "me too". Everyone copied Hoover's motor driven brush.......

I personally speak to many thousands of members of the public every year about vacuum cleaners. Every visitor to the Vacuum Museum is asked what kind of sweeper they have. Most don't know. But virtually all either have, or want, bagless. People 'vote' with their dollars. A few vacuum collectors boycotting a manufacturer because they don't offer bagged machines won't affect the manufacturers in the slightest.

Personally, I've been boycotting Chick-Fil-A for years, but it hasn't had any affect. Maybe someday, somebody's gonna make me wanna gobble up a waffle-fry.

Bagged v Bagless

What's old is new again in market trends.

There was a time everyone wanted a disposable bag system. When I sold Kirby, the Tradition, their first disposable bag machine was just out. With some I heard, I don't want to buy bags, and then others would say, EWWW I don't want to have to empty the bag, through an emptor on newspaper and throw it away everytime I use it. There used to be a customer that would bring her Classic into the shop every week or so, and the repair guy would empty the bag for her. As a courtesy I might add, she was a customer.

Then the bagless machines with a plastic bin came along and everyone was saying "I don't want to buy bags." "Look how easy it is to just empty after each use."

Tom is right, the market will trend to something else or other technology as the pendulum is always swinging.

Each year it seems like bagged machines get lesser and lesser, while bagless increase. It blows my mind because there's so much more maintenance with a bagless. Yes, putting the bin over the trash and pushing a button really looks like low maintenance...but there's so much more than that, and once people own one, they realize this. And many of the few bagged ones filter better because of the cloth HEPA bags.

Before the internet, it would be such a pain trying to find bags for your model. You physically had to go out searching for it. Sometimes they had it, sometimes they didn't. Now, that's such a non-issue.

I would think the manufacturers would take note based on their reviews on their own site. I read a lot of reviews on their bagged machines and I read so many times they went back to bagged because dealing with a bagless was a pain.

I just got through taking my shark apart - I washed the bin, the foam, the felt, the hepa....and cleaned the brushroll. I know all vacuums need maintenance... but of the bagged and bagless machines that I've had, the bagless needs more maintenance than bagged.

Agreed. I did a deep clean of my Dyson and realized I was never going to do that again and went out and bought a bagged system.

Some of Hoover’s nicest bagged uprights have been moved over to the Royal Division of TTI...there’s a Hoover Tempo and a few other great WindTunnel models in the Royal line-up now. And I think Hoover commercial division also has some more familiar Hoover bagged vacuums....including a little PortaPower.

If you're looking for a bagged hoover upright, try hoover commercial, they have more bagged uprights there, but sadly the classic Conquest and Guardsman machines are now only listed on hoover commercial's website as having only a dirt cup. Royal makes hoover's bagged uprights, but they now have the "royal" name slapped on them. The tempo widepath and the bagged t-series are 2 of the machines that royal makes that used to be made by hoover. You can still find a bagged hoover upright at a local retailer or an online retailer, though. Hoover is no longer a name you can stand by. It's a name that now just seems to only be used for profit. Hoover went downhill when they moved production to china. Yes, they still made the conquest; yes, they still made the elite; yes, they still made the Gaurdsman; yes the Convertible and Decade were revived under the professional line as the ch50000 and ch50050; No, the professional line didn't last long; no, the good machines of the old hoover are barely even made.

Bagged vacuums all the way... dislike bagless...I own one bagless...Shark Powered Lift Away, first generation from 2014...only reason I purchased was it was able to convert to a canister vacuum... For me, it's a great machine but a pain to keep clean...so I don't use it much anymore.
