Hello folks. I just received an Aerus 80th Anniversary Ultralux vacuum. The power nozzle remains on when the vacuum is turned off, and must be manually turned off at the base. I've never run into that before. My other Electrolux and Aerus power nozzles operate with the vacuum. Has anyone else run into this? Not a big deal, but curious and a little annoying. Thanks.

I have an 80th myself as well. The power nozzle is not supposed to run after shut-ff. The power nozzle receptacle has two wires and both are connected to the cord leads. Just take the machine apart and correct that one mis-connected wire. The receptacle is wired with the motor so both are energized and de-energized at the same time.

Sounds like you've got a couple of wires crossed. I did that accidentally on an Electrolux Silverado a few years ago. The power nozzle would come on when the vacuum was off and vice-versa. Seems I plugged two of the wires connecting to the cord winder into the wrong spots when I was putting it back together. It worked normally after I reversed them.

I have to agree with Rob on this one. I had an ultralux 80th that was sold thru QVC. It had two PNs. One for regular use and one for carpet cleaning powder. The power nozzle ran it by itself. When the canister was plugged in. You can probably open it up and put the lead from the pn on the switch.

If

The power wire for the power nozzle isn't connected to the power switch it would stay on. I'd bet money that's exactly what is happening.

If

If yhe poster listened and said it's fixed I wouldn't. I'm not rambling on giving examples of the problem. I'm simply stating how to fix it.
I don't see the poster posting the problem is fixed.

It's a great observation but I've had this same situation on .......

Right but Tom, Edgar and myself. Said the same thing about the pn wire not being connected to the switch. You are simply restating what has already been said.

And was it necessarily a problem if the canister was manufactured that way? Maybe my reading comprehension is bad. But I think the poster was asking if anyone else has encountered the same problem.

Its

A forum where you ask questions. The posters in here don't always connect the dots. If I posted s video and evidence and show empathy for the poster would that help?
I told them how to fix it. You can view it how u want but not everyone on here is mechanically inclined. You view the post as him needing empathy and I view it as someone needing to know how to fix a problem .
Agree to disagree it's a power nozzle.

Power Nozzle Stays On

Hello everyone. Thank you all for the posts and information. I appreciate your input and always learn something when I ask a question.

I'm not good with tools and repairs, unfortunately. I rely on a really great vac guy here in Phoenix to repair and keep my vintage machines running well.

I find the power nozzle issue isn't too annoying; I did wonder if an electrical issue was the culprit, and it appears to be the case. I guess I'll live with it unless I have any additional problems.

Thank you all very much for your assistance.

Michael

I want to make sure that we are talking about the same vacuum.

I apologize if it seems like I'm throwing an autistic fit over this post. I want to drive home the point that if it is the same UltraLux as pictured. It came from the factory that way.  It's not an electrical issue. Below is a post from Danrob1 back in 2012 when I asked the same question.

Power Nozzle Stays On

Hi Kloveland. My Ultralux is identical to the one you pictured. It's labeled 80th Anniversary and has the electronic panel with the indicator lights (these don't work, however; I suspect the electronic part died. It happened on my Guardian Ultra, too). I've seen a picture of the Dri Clean nozzle and didn't realize what it was for. I got my Ultralux from ebay and it only has the suction nozzle. It works fine from the switch on the nozzle.

Michael, if I was you, I would leave the vacuum alone and NOT rewire it so the powerhead shuts off when you shut off the vacuum. Remember - Aerus intentionally manufactured the Ultralux this way, for a specific purpose, so that the DriLux powerhead could be used with it for dry carpet cleaning with Capture carpet cleaning powder. If you rewire the vacuum so the powerhead shuts off with the canister on/off switch, you're removing a "feature". And with it, part of what makes it "unique", and possibly a sought-after model in the future that makes it more valuable & collectible. If you ever decide to sell it, you may regret it if removing that "feature" made your cleaner less desirable to a collector, and less valuable. And you can live with it by simply shutting off the powerhead separately, not a big deal.

I would look into getting the lights fixed though. It's not electronic, it's all solid state stuff inside. The Aerus Lux Legacy is still made with the lighted control panel, chances are it's a easy fix.

Power Nozzle Stays On

Hi Kirbylux77. Thank you for the advice. I agree with you and I'm not going to mess with the vacuum electrical wiring. I don't really mind turning the nozzle off at the base and I may run into a Dri Lux nozzle again at some point. I did see one on ebay a while back, but didn't know what I was looking at. I had the circuit board on my Guardian Ultra replaced (it stopped working, but the temperature light glowed) and it was $235 from my Aerus dealer. I decided to hold off on fixing the Ultralux due to the cost.

Dri Lux Nozzle

Hi Maytag142c. How much are you asking for the Dri Lux nozzle with the Capture cleaner? I hadn't heard of this until I read the replies to my question on this forum, and I'm interested in it. My email is [email protected].

Thanks.

Michael T.

Michael, I am sure you will find one eventually. Consider yourself lucky you did not do business with Maytag142C - Cassidy. This member was formerly known as Michael Gravelin, used to be member Electroluxxxx on here. She has made A LOT of enemies over the years, and is someone NOT TO BE TRUSTED AT ALL! Even Gottahaveahoove, John Long, has distanced himself from Cassidy. Pretty bad when one of the members of Vacuumland running the site has a issue with her! The other collector she probably sold the DriLux to was most likely Tom Gasko, Dysonman1 on here, the owner of the vac shop/museum Mid Missouri Vacuum, another member on here who is best avoided and has had MANY run ins with other members and a unsavoury past. His list of enemies is well over a mile long.

All I am saying is, just be VERY CAREFUL in this community who you do business and associate with!

Robert, you don’t know me, you’ve never done business with me, keep my old name out of your mouth. To divulge any info regarding me in this manner is considered slander and discrimination at best!
If you’d like to discuss enemies and long lists we should talk about the list you’ve created over the years and how many people you’ve sexually harassed, including Jason Huber. You have been blocked by so many people as to where I’ve maintained good friendships Including john long. Stop assuming, stop discriminating, stop slandering and harassing. I say this with a level head and professionalism.

You’ve been warned

I’m also forwarding this to Robert Seger. [this post was last edited: 8/16/2023-22:08]

Cassidy, nobody has discriminated against you here. Nobody brought up ANYTHING about your lifestyle or being transgender. All I stated was what your current name & Vacuumland member name was, and what your past name and past Vacuumland member name was. And the "info" that has been divulged here, if any, is public record, here in posts on Vacuumland. What I have stated here in this post about you is THE TRUTH, AND NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH, whether you like it or not. So I have NOT slandered your name. Even if I had, might I remind you that you are in the USA, in New York State, and I am in Canada....so even if I had, you have no legal recourse available to you, civil or criminal.

How about we talk about Niclonnic and the Fantom Fury you sold him with a bad motor? And the multiple "attempts" you supposedly made to repair the motor....which in the end he had to scrap. I am sure those posts on here about your business dealings with Niclonnic and the Fantom Fury left a bad impression on you in the eyes of some members! And in time I am certain other members will come out and tell their tales of dealing with you and feeling maligned by the way you dealt with them over what they bought or were having repaired.

When you say "I say this with a level head and professionalism"....oh ok, so it's "professional" in your line of work as a Rainbow dealer to go ahead and make accusations claiming I have sexually harrassed other vacuum collectors eh? Especially when NOTHING of the sort in that personal nature has been brought up by me about any misconduct you may have made of a personal nature? Nope, that's FAR from being professional!

As for your "friendship" with John Long, Gottahaveahoove....newsflash for ya, that ended YEARS AGO. And you're delusional if you think otherwise. I actually had a long phone chat with John Long last year and we talked a bit about you, and I asked if you two were still friends and got along still....he confirmed that he had cut ties with you & Robert Shore.

So...want to say again "I’ve maintained good friendships Including john long"? I think it's fair to say we have blown that obviously false statement of yours out the window! :P

And as far as if I have enemies or been blocked by other members on Vacuumland? Sure I have. But guess what, you can't go through life without accidentally stepping on someone's toes & upsetting someone....it's bound to happen. It's a part of life. EVERYONE on here has at least 1 member who they have made an ememy of or been blocked by.

You go ahead & forward my posts all you like to Robert Seger all you want, Cassidy. I am confident he will find I have done nothing wrong or that there has been any misconduct in my posts here in this thread about you. Sorry if you consider anything I have said to be "harrassment" in any way....but I do think members here and vacuum collectors, especially newer ones like MichaelT, should have all the information they need to know about you. So you go ahead & warn away all you like, it will get you nowhere.

Have a good night and snuggle up extra tight in that snuggie you're wearing in your pic Cassidy :)

Kenny

Do you think your UltraLux was wired the way it was, because it was sold on QVC to include the Dri Lux? My UltraLux came from the Aerus store and had only the one power nozzle and was wired 'standard'.
