I made a pledge to not say negative things about dysons until i actually used one--- BUT--- I was using a DC-25 animal in a house with three-reapeat- THREE long-haired dogs. I vwcuumed the whole living room, which was filled with dog hair, and it didnt pick up CRAP. Yes, the canister was half-full, but the suction out of the hose was great. My guess is either the pet hair was literally stuck to the carpet, or the brushes werent stiff enough to pick up the hair. Opinions?

Brushes aren`t like typical American Vac`s

Strong suction never cleans well . It is airflow along with proper agitation. The Dyson Brush roll just doesn`t seem to have enough bristles or seem long enough as say a Kirby , Aerus,Oreck , Hoover Convertible ect. I think it a rather cool looking machine but as far as a deep cleaner I prefer my Kirby`s any day .Just my opionion .

Is there dog hair wrapped around the brushroll-this would hinder its performance.Is the filter or cyclones clogged-happens.

No, the brushroll was clean- and like i said, the suction in the hose was great. I think what happened was the bristles just werent quite stiff enough to get the job done.

Wow that is so strange that the DC 25 Animal you were using did not completely clean your carpet?I own the same vacuum & I have three long haired cats I just luv how quickly & throughly my DC 25 cleans my carpets in just one maybe two passes.I know my old Hoover Dimension 1000 could not clean as well as my new Dyson.The Hoover would always leave little tiny hairballs all over the rug & it just had new brush roll stripes put into it just last year?Plus my new Dyson makes vacuuming so much fun now!I actually look forward to cleaning.I was wondering is the Dyson you were using yours?Just curious?Thanks Dave

My ex Craig has the Dyson DC07 & a golden retriever. Whenever he vacuumed, half the hair was wrapped around the brushroll & half was in the dirtbin. Needless to say, he was frustrated with the Dyson & on my suggestion, replaced it with a Kenmore canister vacuum; the Dyson hardly gets used now.

When I first met Craig, & he told me of his problems with the Dyson after a while, I tried it out on his carpet, which is medium-pile berber & was not impressed! The brushroll BARELY touched the rug!

When I decided to buy my first multi-cyclonic vacuum to add to the collection, that's the reason why I bought the Bissell Healthy Home 5770 over the Dyson. That, & I also didn't like the fact that the Dyson & most others at the time were using washable HEPA filters, which in my opinion is NOT real HEPA filtration. The Bissell was one of the few multicyclonic uprights that used a true, replaceable HEPA H12 filter- which is CRUCIAL to maintaining good air quality while vacuuming if there is no filters inside the dirtbin.

Also, if one was reading Consumer Reports at the time, the Bissell Healthy Home 5770 was also beating all the other multicyclonic vacuums, including Dyson, in their tests. That is, until the Dyson DC28 Airmuscle came out....

I know people will hate me for saying this, but, the Dyson brand is just a gimmick...

Years ago when he came up with the first domestic cyclonic vacuum cleaner, yes, it was innovation and a very neat invention, but he never really invented the idea, he just took it from industrial cyclonic separators and shrunk it down and slapped it on a Hoover Junior, and to date, I've never been impressed by any of his new creations, the counter-rotating washer was interesting, but I could see flaws (even though I was still fairly young when it came out), and the recent air multiplier, I've tried a few in different stores, and they just don't impress...

I do feel sorry for those who have shelled out on a dyson product, only to find out it doesn't work as it's supposed to, but, in the age of the sheep, people just follow what everyone else is doing, which to me is a very sad state of affairs...

Wonderful Bare Floor Vacuum

Cleans wide area open bare floors really good , but so does a $50.00 Electric Broom .

There are two problems with Dysons.

The first is they don't have much airflow at the floor.
So they don't clean very well.

The the worst of all, is they have brainwashed their customers. Someone owns a Bissell Clearveiw, they don't change the belt or clean the filters, it losses suction. Time for a Dyson!

People are so stupid I read reviews from people who think carpet tracks are the result of suction. They think it's hard to remember Hoover type Y at Walmart. Your Bissell just needs 10 minuets of your time and your good to go. This could be with any vacuum, but Bissell is smart. They print the belt and filter(or bag) number on the vacuum.

Anyway, I have never experienced any large loss of suction, and I do abuse my vacuums.

I just got a Dyson in for service this week because it didn't suck anymore. Well the vacuum was fine, the reason it didn't suck is because the owner didn't think they needed the filter or yellow filter holder. I think people should have permits for owning a vacuum cleaner.

problems with Dysons

i have found that most customers fail to read the instruction booklet past the how to assemble section

filters are never cleaned or changed resulting in diminished airflow, and that air flow cools the motor so its at risk too. but hey, ill sell you new filters

OK Guys

We keep on losing posters (and some good long-term posters) because of Dyson-bashing. Please re-read the rules of the forum. Bashing machines creates a hostile environment - not something we want here. I am going to be vigilant about this. It does not create the type of environment we want here. I hesitate to ask but what is it about those machines that creates such rancor? I have one that was gifted to me by a friend. Not to my taste, but not anything that generates hostility! I really would like one of the canisters.

I thought everybody was having a nice civilized conversation about the downsides and issues with the Dyson machines. I didn't see anything become heated or anyone breaking out in argument. To me I just thought everyone was stating there opinions of a machine and stating why there opinion is that way.
