U2334 Turbopower Autoflex - for the Leccy Board

U2334 Turbopower Autoflex - the 2nd version

When the Electricity Board changed its corporate cleaner colour, the U2334 was changed to carry it. Here is the 2nd version U2334 in Carmargue Grey and Charcoal Grey...

U2336 Turbopower Autoflex - the Glass Turbopower

Here we have the top of the 1985 introduced range, in the form of the infamous U2336 in Lacquer Red and Deep Lacquer Red.

Infamous as a consequence of this particular model becoming renowned for snapping and cracking to pieces as you used it. Indeed, because of this unfortunate fragility they are one of the rarer models from the core ranges of Hoover Turbopowers and to find one in good condition, or in any condition for the matter, is a rare thing.

Its fragility is a shame, beacuse it is a very attractive colour scheme indeed....

Through to 1989

The models covered tonight bring us through to the start of 1989 and from now on the first series of Turbopowers begin to get a bit more complicated, with exclusive models being produced in ever greater models.

Will progress further tomorrow.

I doubt too, what with all the upheaval that Hoover has gone through over the last 20 years, that those prototypes exist anymore. Pretty sure that they will have been shredded donkeys years ago.
Unfortunately history goes out of the window, when a firm is taken over or goes bust - in the UK we have seen it with Hoover, Hotpoint and Servis.
On the laundry side of things - Hoover had to be told of their washing machine collection, in great danger of destruction and abandonned in one of their derelict factories, by members of Discuss O Mat! We are told that themachines have now been moved - fingers crossed that we havent been spun a yarn.
It is widely rumoured that when Indesit took over Hotpoint, its heritage collection went in a skip!
Servis used to have a heritage collection of machines, but their location is now lost in the mists of time. Probably skipped years ago.

Its all a bit depressing. Its upto us guys to do the preserving and I dont think we do a bad job of it either. All power to us all.

U2406 - a bit of a mystery machine

From now on things get a bit rocky with the Turbopowers, as model numbers spread far and wide through the numbering range, with handfuls of exclusive models randomly plonked within it.


U2406 was decked out in Pale Carmargue Blue and Deep Carmargue Blue.

A while back a collector had this machine listed on ebay, in a rather weird shade of blue, which was described as a U2408.

Was it a U2406, or indeed one of the handful of colour variations that were given the model number U2408?

No picture of this one, but a certain collector with nice collection of vintage Argos catalogues might be able to oblige! hint hint :-)

I dont know the order but, after the possible blue version above, there was also a version in Black Tulip Shadow and Gloss Black.

This is a rather clean and hardly used example, with a handle so stiff that I havent been able to take a photo of the ratings sticker.

As with with the Tulip Black U2408, this was an Argos exclusive..

U2408 possibly another version

Ryan, earlier in the thread, posted a photo of a red version mystery Turbopower Plus.
Remembering the discussion at the time, it was stated that this too was a model U2408 and was dated from 1990!
Arghhhhh the irritation of reusing model numbers....
