U1436 - Turbopower Junior Mystery model!

Model U1436 is an elusive model, for which I have never found a photograph.

All I know is that this machine is coloured in 'Aubergine' and judging from the hard bag model they did in Aubergine, it will be a very dark and glossy purple Junior.

Any photos or memories?

U1650 Junior - the Final Turbopower Junior!

Here we reach the last of the Turbopower Juniors, in the form of Model Ui650 in a very fetching dark red colour (dont know the official title of its colour - anyone know it?).

This machine was kindly gifted to us by Chestermike...

U1650 Junior - the Final Turbopower Junior!

This final Junior was given a kick up the backside by Hoover and boasted the most powerful motor ever fitted to a Turbopower Junior and possibly ever fitted to a Turbopower of the original style!

Through the fading it reads 650watts...

Well!

Those are all the softbag Turbopowers that I know of. If anyone knows of others, then do say as it will be good what else to look out for.

The only other softbag Turbo's were the two Turbolites (well one model really), but these are numbered fairly high model number wise, so will come later on the thread.

Will make a start on Hardbags next!....but thats for tomorrow

Cheers
Paul

p.s before I go, just though would add this photo, in the form of an Australian 'Breeze', showing how our Juiniors could have had 'on-board tools' had Hoover offered this machine in the UK.

With thanks to the photograph owner - if you view the thread, what is the model number of your Breeze?

Turbopowerpaul,

I had a Turbo power junior same colour scheme as featured in reply 38 but the hood design was the same shape as reply 20 but with no headlight. I gave this to my sister when I bought a DC01 ( the breast cancer research model in silver and pale blue ), a decision I regretted pretty much straight away. My sister still maintains it was the best vacuum she ever had even though the handle did break on it. Thanks you for this wonderful thread, my interest has really been sparked by the photo in reply 46, I have never seen turbopowers like the two to the left of the photo, the one on the far left reminds me of a hotpoint swallow for some reason!

U1284 Sprite...

That pic is of my Sprite taken in about 2006! completely forgot I had that, was a smashing little vac that. We saved it from the tip and the bag was absolutely stuffed with sand. it cleaned up ok though. Can't remember for the life of me what ever happened to it.

Anyway, heres my contribution, again thanks to the owner of the pic, can't remember who it belongs to but its an odd one, i've never seen another

Those prototypes in your last photo, are they actual prototypes or did you do some great photoshoping? I collect prototypes and Have a turbopower prototype from SA

Junior & TP Junior

Hi Paul

Thanks for a great thread - I really do have to applaud the work you put into creating it.

The 1412 Junior is indeed safe and sound and I was sure, from memory, that the handle assembly was different - looks like they were using up parts from the Sprite for I cannot see aby other reason why it should be different.

I am also here to say that the U1650 is an absolutly brilliant cleaner, I dont have any experience of the previous models and I picked up my U1650 for the vast sum of £1.20 - yes, less that the price of a loaf a bread. Even at 650watts the suction is terrific and it grooms the carpet as well as ANY other cleaner I have used.

Hi Paul.
Thats the problem with Turbopowers - so many of the blooming things and once you get away from the core ranges, finding information about them is difficult. Gets even harder towards the end of production, as obviously they became a kind of niche model that Hoover probably want that interested in and so publicity got rarer and rarer.

Hi Paul continued & Gareth
The two weird Turbopowers pictured, alongside the more normal example, are I am assuming prototypes. The picture is a screen grab from the TV and I think it was the BBC programme about Hoover's free flights fiasco. Interestting to see how the design evolved from the prototypes to the finished article.

Hi Ryan.
I remember the time that unusual red Turbopower first came on the scene. I think it was mentioned that it was a U2408, though it doesnt resemble the U2408 that I know of. If its owner is reading this, any chance of reconfirming your machines identity?
Am still working through the Electrolux history - your page scan has come in very useful. When I feel more happy with it, I will send you a copy to proof read for me!
Be interesting to see your protitype example Gareth - does it resemble any of the two shown above?

Hi Al.
With 650watts to play with, the U1650 is certainly an increase over the original 410 that the U1100 had to play with. Our U1650 is a bit unwell and will require some tinkering when its next out of storage.

Thanks for the comments guys.
