Photo Request Kirby G3/G4 cord mounting.

Would really appreciate a photo of the proper way to attached the cord and screw right near the top of the motor housing, right before it clips on handle. The part that the screw goes thru. Kirby g3 or g4 would do the trick.

The original or the replacement scuff plate?

The original had a trianglar piece that went over the cord to the side of the scuff plate, then screwed to the top of the scuff plate. This one is no longer available.

The replacement scuff plate has an opening on the side for the anchor on the cord to fit in under the scuff plate. The cord anchor goes in first, then the scuff plate snaps down on top of the anchor and then the screw goes thru the scuff plate, anchor and into the upper shell housing.

The original scuff plate and cord. Someone took it all aprt and now I am having trouble getting it back on. When I install the cord, the vacuume will not go into reverse.

Since my G4 has been converted to the newer style cord, here's how the cord would go in the older style setup. In this picture I used a gray cord for contrast. The older scuff plate would go on the upper shell first. The cord gets zip tied to the trianglar piece and the trianglar piece has a round raised section on the bottom side that fits into the hole on the scuff plate. Then the screw goes into the trianglar piece holding it to the upper shell.

If you can't get the vacuum to go in reverse
1. is the screw too long and the slide bracket hitting on the screw?
2. is the triangular piece seated in the hole of the scuff plate or is it sticking up and the handle spring assembly is hitting on the front edge of it?

The only reason I asked about the length of the screw is because I've seen where someone replaced the original screw with one that was about one and a half inches long.

If the screw is the original (or close to it) it shouldn't be a problem.

Ok, so the G3 pic was helpful for me to get my G3 installed proper. However the pic of the G4 above is showing the curved piece of plastic that is supposed to pinch the cord. If I intall this, the part of the cord that it is pinching is too big..........also this little piece of plastic is preventing the handle from coming back all the way thus making reverse not work. I left it off and all is well, but I think it is not right to have to leave this off.

In Chicagomikes' pictures the G4 has the original scuff plate and cord. The G3 has the updated replacement scuff plate as well as the new style cord with the in line clip (which I was referring to as an anchor).

So in conclusion, on my g4, is it as simple as buying the updated scuff plate and screw it together like pictured on that G3?

OK, here's a picture of the cord from a G5 (so pay no attention to the color) with the in line clip. If this is the cord you have then YES you need the updated scuff plate.
