Are those Hoovers that 'hover' on a cushion of air from the exhaust?
They came out around the same time as the Hovercraft, if I remember (c.1969?)
We were led to believe we'd all be riding around on hover-scooters by the year 2000!

I think the Constellation came out sometime in the early to mid 50s. I have a Model 86, which I think was introduced in 1958.

On the constellations with the hose connection on the top....does it swivel 360 degrees or is it fixed?

Hi
You can make these constellations float 10 times better on hard floors by attaching a ring of cloth felt to the underneath of the skirt with double sided tape, letting the inner ring of felt overlap about 1/2 inch.Use the connie as a template. This creates a skirt where it traps the exhaust air just like a hovercraft. Believe me when I say it floats all over the place even on uneven surfaces or if the metal skirt is a little bent up. No matter. It will even hover down the garden path.

And thanks for the felt info. I was thinking of putting felt feet pieces on my Constellation because it's rusty on the bottom ring where it scraped the floor and I don't want it rusting on the carpet.

Mine floats pretty well on the carpet, but I never tried it on the tile floors. Mine's a Penncrest, a model rebadged for JcPenney which I hear is a more uncommon model. It looks like an 843 tilted model but white/orange and Penncrest Canister badging.

is the a-108 model made between April of 1964 and September of 1965. only 9000 were made. you are the only other collect aside from myself that has one.

the more common a-107 in white and cream with the 82 handle is more prevalent as over 25000 of those were made over a very long run. from 1964 to 1969

Thank you for that information. I knew Penncrests were rare in general, but I didn't realize this particular one was more so.

I'm guessing that since it came out in 1964, the Penncrest is actually the first tilted Constellation and tool caddy model that was made? I know the 843 was tilted but I don't think it came until 1967.

yes, thats correct. the titled penncrest was first, hoover used it after penneys dumped it. oddly they only used it on the 843. i think it was more versatile with the one board took rack which is why i use my a-108 more moften than my other connies.

Love the american constellations design and colours, particualarly the rubber bumpers. I have several myself.
Its a shame though they dont float as well as the british ones. I found that the lids on the USA models dont sit very well on the rubber causing a less than perfect seal, usually near the lid hinge where the rubber "kinks". This i found even on an unused 848 which I purchased recently, it hadnt even had a plug fitted from new and was in its original cardboard box.
Unless of course I have just been very unlucky!!
