Oreck airflow tests.

Well i've been very interested in knowing what my vacs can do so i've continued to test. My numbers are a little different from bills. I did use the full width of the base (at least to the edge brushes) instead of just the brushroll cavity so my density is lower than his.

First off this RU4090H2T new hepa bag installed.

85 CFM from the XL21 must mean

That it has a larger fan? I'll keep an eye out for one of these at the thrift stores. And please keep those tests coming, especially for machines I've never tested yet.

Oreck magnisium?!

Haha, I have one of those. Yes, I have not measured the airflow, but it is horrible on my rugs. Sorry. The brushes are so stiff that they do not deep clean my medium rugs (semi-delicate). It works ok (but no more than that) on a high pile I have. So something more must be in play here. My Sebo Felix does a better job and is more kind to my rugs. I know I have no evidence, but I can see and feel it.

The pic are the proof I have a Magnesium. Which I find pretty cool as this type of vacuum (direct-air and US) is non-existing in Sweden. I think I am the only Swed in Sweden that has one!.

I do, however, appreciate your tests and that you post them. So do not get me wrong here. And also, thanks for the pics of the D4!!

The most important factors in carpet cleaning are airflow and agitation. While Bill and I have worked on measuring airflow agitation isn't measured, and with the magnesium having a single row of brushes i'd imagine that it isn't great. And with a single motor system once the brush is put to the ground the airflow will be effected as the motor will slow a little due to brush resistance.

They all say agitation. But if you have a brush which reach deep into the carpet why would you need agitation? The Oreck magnesium has the best agitation of all my vacuums (given they have a brushroll) still it does not do the best deep-cleaning. All of my other vacuums does a better job with their brushrolls, my Sebo Felix, Miele U1, Electrolux UltraOne. I do not know how to prove they do a better job, but they do compared to my Oreck (Magnesium).

What has happened when I used my Magnesium is that it does not do surface cleaning great on my low/medium rugs. It does a much better work on my high pile. The only thing I can think of is that the brushes on the Magnesium is stiff and dense.

I have not watched vaclabs newest videos, but what I can see so far is that it has to do with the brushes (how deep they reach). The Magesium has great agitation, but the brushes do not reach below the surface on my low/medium piles, hence my rugs stay dirty.

Yes. Kirby is a different animal, being great at all (but delicate rugs). It has two brushes what I have seen.[this post was last edited: 8/24/2017-20:27]

The bristles on the brush roll can provide the agitation without having beater bars. Take the Kirby stiff bristled oblique brush roll (152505) in my chart. Much better sand pickup than the loose bristled one (152502).

BTW, for the Kirby G5 and newer, there are actually four brush rolls available. To date, I have used 3 out of 4.

My Oreck XL classic and the Platinum Pilot both clean my medium pile wall to wall carpet pretty good, as well as low pile area rugs. I'm not sure how the Magnesium compares though. They are both excellent on hard surfaces.
