So I've bought some vacs from a guy who makes his living garbage picking them by the hundreds and reselling or junking. To my dismay, the guy's got and has scrapped more vacs than I could ever dream to own (his claims are). Anyway, on my last trip to his place he had a Nss pig sitting in the garage he said he'd let go for $20. He says it works great, but there is a nut trapped in the fan case that rattles around in there when you run it, but this machine is so durable it (the machine) doesn't give a crap! I'm wondering if it's worth it. For the life of me I can't fathom what I'd use it for, but owning a vac called the "NSS Pig" sure sounds like I'm owning the battleship of vacuums. Anybody interested in it if I don't take the cake? I would have to confirm he said $20, but I'm 99% positive that's what he said.

He also says it's a nightmare to take it apart to get that trapped nut out, hence why he never bothered. What's y'alls take on that?

Get that vac as fast as you can! I've heard the NSS Pig is one of the best dry shop vacs ever. Besides, they are around $1000 new, and I'm sure someone on this forum knows how to fix that problem.

A nightmare to get an item out of the fan case?

It's actually very simple. Pull the bumper down from the front section (snout), then remove five screws. Once that's done, you'll have access to the fan and the fan case.

For $20.00, I'd snap that up in a second. I already own two, one of which I've fully restored and own all three bags offered by NSS (cotton shake-out, cotton disposable bag and denim shake-out, all new and unused).

Here's my restored machine with the brand new denim shake-out bag...

If there are no takers for the NSS M1 Pig I would be GLAD to give it a home-rattly nut and all-this could be fixed-take apart the fancase as above.Would cost more than $20 to pack and ship the beast-would be worth it to me.LOVE MY PIGS!-have three-glad to have more!!Can the nut be merely trapped in your pigs "snout"the large area in the front of the vacuum the hose connects to-the trap is in front of the fan to catch such large thingsa before they go thru the fan-you have to disconnect the hose-tip the machine over to dump the item out of the hose opening from the snout. As said-these machine are easy to service and incredibly durable.

Great vac.Great restoration!Great picture!!What is going on north of the border? Any vac pic is good to see but but those from Canadian collectors are among the very best.

If it is complete (hose and floor nozzle) I might be interested. I could come pick it up cheaper than shipping... only about 1 1/2 hours away.

I would be interested in the "Pig" vacuum .The cost in my case would be for shipping.Pigs can be shipped-I have had two shipped to me when they were new.The bag rod and bag removes easily from the machine canister base for shipping.Setscrews in the base hold the bag support rod.Try to get a shipping cost estimate along with the price to Greenville,NC.27858.

Tolivac

would you know the smallest box size I can get this vac in? Dimensions on the machine for that? I'll get a price.

tolivac

At most it looks like $35-40 shipping, $45 for the vac. I overestimate shipping but after box and packing I expect $30-35. So $80-90 total is my guess.

Sounds good to me-how can we hammer out a deal on this.I would have to measure one of my machines-The UPS store can pack and ship the machine if you bring it to them disassembled.-Bag support rod and bag removed from the machine. Can give you some measurements tomorrow.

Well I've always had it buyer sends me the money, I get the vac, box it and get it to ups as soon as I can. give me a l x w dimension with the machine standing on it's back (hose snout in the air) and an aproximate height with the bag support next to it. What I generally do is take 2 boxes 12x12x16 and whatever sticks out of the top of one box, I box over with the other box. gives me about 23" height to work with. That in no way would be more than $30. If I have to go to a wider box, i don't know about price, because a 12x12 always worked but I imagine the machine isn't wider than 12"

For some weird reason-don't know what-the computer I am using won't go to your Email address. So far the dimension I ha ve gotten from NSS is the NSS Pig canister body is 16.5 in long. With bag rod attached its 32.5 in high. Will have to measure one of my machines at home to see what the LDH of the canister unit is.These do break down from shipping much like Kirbys and most other vacuums.I forgot to measure it last night will remember today and get back to you.Maybe you can Email me thru my address on my profile.

I got some actual measurements and its different than what I gave you last-measured one of my machines-The "Pig" body is 22" long overall,12 1/4 " high without the bag-from floor to top of fan discharge opening to bag.and 10" wide.Bag rod is 24 3/4" long by 11 1/2" wide. Will try your other email.

with the dimensions of a box I'd have to use to fit that vac, it's $30 instead of $33 with your new dimensions.

I tried the link to your email and it wouldn't go through either!! I only have one email, so I don't know why it'd be causing problems. check again and try copying it exactly as I typed it....
Anyway, $75 is the magic #. Hopefully we can get a quicker means of communication.

I just snatched one of these up on Craigslist for $25 about a week ago. I bought a used genuine hose off eBay for $30, and a used genuine wand and rug nozzle for $60. I'm also waiting for a $20 bag clip that I ordered thru a janitorial place here in Denver. I've stuffed a genuine bag in there as well. I have an older model M as well that I need to get cleaned up and put back together. I've got a weird knockoff machine as well. I'll post a pic of all 3 once they're all ready.

COOL!!!!Another "pig" or is it "HOG" lover!!!!Now I am up to four in my collection.I have pigs in my kitchen, den, and the other two in a back room where I work on machines. The "Pig" is the BEST bench vac I have used!!!The one pictured looks nice-it looks like it has the older "kidney bean" bag-looks like the bag needs a bag clamp.

It does, it should be here any day now... When I got the machine the whole bag was held closed with those clamps. With the paper bag in it I can use it as it is but I will put the clamp on when it gets here. This one would have used the metal clamp I'm sure but I suspect the new one will be gray plastic. I've loved these machines for a very long time. I was about 5-6 when I first saw one in use while I was following mom around a fabric store and I think another one once in a walmart. Then they used them at my elementary school where my love for these machines really grew. Have you ever seen a Pacific Steamex like the one in this video on YouTube?

I have both the metal and plastic bag clamps. The metal clamps are of course older. The plastic clamps were used until NSS went to a "Universal" black bag with the "orbit" logo on it-has a zipper top.I use it with paper bags.If you use a paper bag in the bag you have-DON'T LET IT GET FULL-or you wont be able to get it out of the cloth bag thru the narrow bag opening-or are you using a Kirby "G" type bag-these can fitand with luck can get it out of the bag opening when full-the old "kidney bags" were intended as dump bags.
I have seen that Pacific Steamex video--Never seen one of those machines-would be neat to have one.Beleive the Pacific Steamex folks got involved in a lawsuit with NSS over that Pacific Steamex machine much like the maker of Bison vacuums vs Kirby.I would have to bet the Steamex machines like the NSS M1 are rare.It is a nice machine-somehow I doubt its the same motor and fan as the NSS-Why would NSS provide parts to a competing company to make a machine like that?Think the person making the video doesn't have that right. The Pacific machine does have some diffences over the NSS-the "snout" is different-as well as the metal outside bag feed tube from the fancase. When I looked up Pacific Steamex-there is NO mention of their vacuum like the NSS M1 mentioned on their website-they make wet carpet extractors and floor washer machines-and wet-dry vacuums, and janitorial equipment.

I first got acquanted with the NSS M1 when I saw them picured in a Daycon Jsnitorial Products catalog in the 70'sDaycon is a janitorial supply in the Wash,DC area.I ordered my first M1 from them-and lived in an apartment-they delivored the machine to me.In the delivory truck besides mine-was a fleet of other M1's asked where they were going-the Daycon guy said to the White House!Cool! mine was with those!Still have that machine and it works fine.Did replace the brushes and bearings. It now has to be about 40 yrs old!I orddred a M1 for the radio startion I was working for at the time-they still have it!

Bag clamp installed! I don't think the plain aluminum shoe rug nozzle does overly well on pet hair. It does ok but nothing special, it gets everything else great tho. Vacuumed my BF's aunt and uncles house a few times so far while I'm here taking care of the dogs. I love this vacuum though. I think I could be content to have a collection that only these vacs.

Believe it or not I was thinking the same thing about the paper bag as I was stuffing it into the small bag opening.

One of my NSS M1 vacs has a "pigtail" connection for a NSS powernozzle.Have the powernozzle and its wand.It does work well with the "Pig"the powernozzle was also meant to be used with a NSS "Designer Dry" canister vacuum.A Circuit City store my way had one of those-when the store closed asked if they had it among the things they were selling out-Wasn't around me and the guys selling out the store couldn't find it anywhere-wanted it for my collection. It had a powernozzle.I think in the real haul uprights-such as Saintaires,Kirbys,Metal Royals and such do better for carpets than the NSS Pigs with the straight suction carpet floor nozzles. When I used the NSS Powernozzle-was a big improvement-I modified my NSS nozzle so I could use it with any other 1.5" hose vacuum.Just plug it into a wall outlet instead of the one on the Pig.The Pigs are sold as two models today-one with the pigtal outlet and the other without it.The pigtal one cost several dollars more.It would seem the NSS straight suction carpet tools are designed for low pile commercial carpet-not the deeper carpet used in homes.I don't have any carpet tools for my M1's just bare floor tools. If you want to use paper bags-order a M1 "Universal" bag and paper bags from an NSS dealer-the Universal bag is $90 and the paper bags are like $36 for a pack of 6 bags.Also--Yellow or White Shop-Vac 6 gal bags will fit-just have to push harder and carefully on the bag collar to get it on the NSS bag horn.Kirby "G" bags will fit, too.Just make sure they are on tight-If too full the bag will be blown off the horn.

I've got a pack of genuine NSS M-1 bags and that's whats in there, it fit perfectly over the metal fill tube. To me the vacuum wouldn't look right with anything but a blue bag. I just won't pack the bag full, which I rarely ever do anyway
