Back on the subject of the effectiveness of NSS rug nozzles... The nozzle I was sent from another collector finally arrived and I got to play with it (see pics!) and this is the 16in nozzle with plain shoe (easy to replace the shoe with the lint lifter shoe that has grooves cut in the back shoe that act like the gleaner bar on a Lux rug tool) that is listed in the NSS attachment catalog as being great for all carpet, but especially good for household type carpet, the 12in one I already had is more of a low commercial pile nozzle. Although the one I had did well enough, this does excellently. It glides with almost no effort, picks everything including hair and lint in one pass, leaves the carpet groomed and you can hear in the wand that its getting lots of sand and grit, and when you get up to a wall head on you hear it sucking against the baseboard and it gets everything up to the wall, so nothing is left at the edge of the carpet, and it cleans along the side edges great too!

The nozzle shown looks pretty nice and heavy duty-air slots in the front lip will allow airflow so that explains why your Pig is Hogging the dirt from your floor. The airflow of the pig will match this nozzle.I will have to get one of those!Save having to lash up the powernozzle or the Kirby as a powernozzle-It does work well-you hear LOTS fo stuff going thru the NSS and Kirby hoses-then the deleightful "dings" from the Pigs fan!

Piggies!

I recently bought a pig as well i'm pretty impressed. I do not have an actual hose for it so i attached my henry's hose with some tape the best rating i have got with that hose is 9.5 i think it has the potential to reach 10 but lacking a hanger the leather fill tube inside the bag gets a little...restricted when the bag bends.

The biggest surprise to me was how small it is i was expecting some monsterous machine i was really shocked to see that it had come in such a small box For comparison here it is next to my Riccar-1700.

It does have a strange short cord coming off it which i think is this power nozzle connection i've heard of it kind of reminds me of a computer cord's end.

The plate/sticker says this uses a 13.4 amp motor

Fan

I had to remove the scrap trap or "snout" of it has some stringy material had gotten around the fan it only took about 5 screws to do so but here's a shot of that if anyone is curious

I love using this as it is with that nozzle I just got. I love the sound of stuff going up the metal wand and then you can hear it hit the inside of the trap on the front of it, and then if it is the right size and weight to make it I love the sound of stuff hitting the fan! Our kitten loves playing with q tips, so they end up all over, most of the time I have to pick them up and trash them, but the M-1 will suck them right up and I love the sound they make in the fan! I really think this nozzle would actually clean as well as any upright with a brush roll just because of the amount of air it moves, it actually hisses when you set it on the carpet, the flatter the rug the louder the hissing as you move it. Its actually pretty amazing when you think about how much airflow it takes to make a 16in rug nozzle hiss like that. But when it comes to moving air the M-1 really is an absolute monster with that fan it has. I'm using this one for at least a week, then after the last time I use it I'm going to immediately use my 2 speed Rainbow E2, which I kind of consider the "gold standard" in truly deep cleaning carpet as they clean so damn well and with the water its easy to see what it gets, so I'll base my opinion of the M-1s deep cleaning ability based on how much and what kind of dirt the Rainbow picks up.

Soon I'm going to go use my RinseNVac to shampoo my best friends carpet in his apartment. He lives there with his boyfriend and his BF's mom and he has a Miele Plus with the SEB213 that I gave him because he needed a decent vacuum and the Plus isn't one I find all that interesting. They love it and it does well, but I'm thinking about taking the M-1 to use before I shampoo, its either that or my Royal Powercast. Any thoughts?

Tjose fans give me goosebumps! Its an octopus of a fan too, big huge 8in diameter fan with 8 blades. I think the octopus look comes from the fact that there isn't a round solid disk behind the blades like most others, this one is just different in every way.

Devin:The Pig you just got is the "Carpet Cleaner" model. The "pigtail DIN" connector is just that for the matching NSS powernozzle that fits either the Pig or the Designer Dry vacuums.I have that NSS pigtail model-and the powernozzle.Looks like you need a hose, hose adaptor and bag support rod.You can get those items from your NSS dealer. The hoses for my later pigs were like $80.You would have to check with the dealer as to what the hose adaptor and bag support post would be.The bag needs to be supported so the fill tube is extended.
When I used my Pig for a remodel job cleanup--was amazed at what the beast ate-lets see-conduit box knockout slugs, cable staples, nails, and even a peice of #14 Romex about several inches long. Was surprized to find it in the bag.Used the dump bag at that time.Only problem with that debris is that it did chew up the bags fill tube. The fan--UNDAMAGED!!!If you note in the picture of the fan-the blade ends are "reinforced" by the "Octipus" arms on the fan.Explains why it could eat the stuff it did!
For the carpet cleaning before shampooing-use the Pig.If you have a Kirby-leave the floor-carpet nozzle on the Kirby.Take off the Kirby bag and put the Kirby hose on the Kirbys fan discharge-now connect the Kirby hose to the Pig---and now you have the Tandem air vac of Tandem air vacuums! This will get the stuff out of the carpet-and the NSS huge bag will contain it.No worry of it filling fast like with a regular canister used with the Kirby. This works well with "G" type Kirbys.
Oh yes-have a Riccar vacuum like in the picture. Please note the Pig is much Heavier than the Riccar-and the Pigs hose opening bigger of course-the Pig works by eating lots of air with what it picks up.ENJOY YOUR PIG!!!!Love all of mine!!If you want the powernozzle-the kit is like $375-includes the nozzle, and the cord, cord clips for the hose. The nozzle may be higher now-bought mine long ago.A freind of mine loved using the pig and powernozzle to vacuum his house-and another thing-sometimes small hard things picked up by the fan and then blown into the bag make a nice "THOOP" sound into the bag!

Another thing-the fancase of Pigs is lined with a steel liner-sometimes you can see it in the fancase with the snout removed-or test the side of the fancase with a magnet.Nice thing-for what the Pig could slurp up-imagine those nails I picked up going thru the fancase!
Not only hearing the stuff go thru the hoses and wands-you can FEEL it,too!KOOL!!

Ah

I see it was wise of them to create a model made for carpeting though i'm impressed by what it can do with a straight suction tool.

I did pair it with my lindhaus PB-14 yesterday it really brought up a lot of sand.

I've been looking at the parts and prices and i think i'll just wait till some used ones show up i have ordered a generic crushproof hose for it though.

I do like the idea of using it with a Kirby for the tandem effect i've also considering attempting to connect my sanitaire but i think it would perform even more amazingly with a wider hose than the kirby's perhaps a 2" shop vac hose? get that full 140 cfm?

Devin-you can get 2" hoses and adaptors from the NSS dealers. The 1.5 adaptors are most common. It was amazing what the Kirby and Pig could do with the stock hoses. The Kirby hose would be the more limiting factor-its 1.25" vrs 1.5" on the Pig.These is a plate on the side of the Pig that tells the CFM when used with 1.5,2" hoses.Yes,the larger the hose-the more CFM.I think there was a time when Pigs were used in movie theater cleanups the 2" hoses were favored by them-could gobble up the spilled popcorn and candy wrappers and packages better than the 1.5" hoses.Remember seeing a theater trade magazine a while back publised in the early 60's besides the ads for Simplex and Century projectors-you could see adds for the Pig!

Ya know

When i won the auction i asked the shop owner i'm always going to if he's ever seen one he told me that one of the theaters up here used to use one and somehow they managed to kill it i can't recall what they actually broke on it but i was pretty amazed that someone actually managed to kill one.

I guess I'll tell the story of the M and M-1 in my life... It goes back to when I was about to start kindergarten and Mom took me to the elementary school to sign be up. I happened to look into the open custodian's office/room and see something that I was mesmerized by, a big yellow canister vacuum that had a massive blue bag on top. Looked much like an oversized Kirby permanently setup with a hose on the front. I didn't know what to think about such a thing, all I knew is that I was in love! lol After that encounter I saw one bing used in a So-Fro ( I think I spelled that right?) while I was on one of the many tedious trips to the store with mom and I was again fascinated, and this scene was again repeated in a Wal-Mart as I heard a vacuum and followed the sound to a guy vacuuming the clothing area with one of these beasts. By 1st grade I had stayed in from recess to vacuum the classroom with one of them and then also stayed after school to get to vacuum some of the hallways at the school.

One fateful day the school janitor had me come to their office to see the latest toy, the brand new Pro-Team backpack, which they had me put on and vacuum the office with. I loved it as well and wanted one, but the fun was shaded when I asked what this meant for the Pigs that I so loved, and I was sightly heartbroken to learn that they were being phased out. I don't think I ever really forgave backpack vacuums for replacing my beloved beast, even today Ive never been as enthusiastic about the backpacks as I could be and I suspect thats why.

My mom ended up working at the fabric store that had the M-1 and I even got to bring it home to play with, and doing so only intensified my burning desire to have one to myself. When that store closed my mom didn't want to try at all to buy the pig off of them for me and I was upset by that.

I drooled over these every time I saw one and then one day I ran across my Pacific Steamex on Craigslist for $65 and I had to have it. It made me happy but I still had to have the real thing which I do now have. I love my M, M-1 and the Steamex which is a very obvious knockoff, even the fan looks identical, but its a mirrored copy with the motor turning the opposite direction and the fan is a mirrored opposite of the NSS'. It also has a chrome tube coming out of the fan chamber that the bag's metal elbow connector attaches to, and it has the metal rack that has the cord hooks and attachment holder, while the M-1 has the bag connect directly to the fan chamber and a metal rod hangs the bag and has the cord hooks and hose rack.

I got interested in Pigs when I saw one in the Daycon Janitorial Products catalog when I lived in Wash DC during the 70's-the banks used Pigs after hours for cleaning--So--THATS why the bank closed early!!Watched thru the windows as the janitor in that bank vacuumed the floor and other things with it.So,after drooling over the pictures of the Pig in the Daycon book(have one of those Daycon books somewhere in the boxes of books I have)I worked OT at the radio station get oppertunity-they had a DJ strike so I worked extra hours at the transmitter plant and mowed the towerfeild on OT.I was able to get my first Pig and a commercial Royal metal upright-BEAUTIFUL!!And when the Daycon man brought them to my apartment building--felt special. There was a fleet of Pigs on his truck besides mine-asked the delivoryman where they were going--To the White House!!I have a Proteam backpack vacuum-like you like the Pig so much better.Other Pigs I have were bought from OT and working special jobs at stations fixing their gear and cleaning up their sites-The PIG starred there-One TV transmitter I repaired and cleaned out filled up the Pig paper bag!!Showed that to the station manager. He was shocked!
Another NSS Beauty I want is the Bronco Wet-Dry vac with a HUGE Blue horse logo bag beside its beautifully polished motor housing and SS tank.Still looking for one of those-and a Certified Pile Lifter upright vac.A Pacific Steamex would be another I would like to get-along with the "Ally Cat" vac.Other Pig vacuums I like are the TriStars,Vortechs,Miracle Mates, and Patriot vacuums-other piglike and effective vacuums.Have those.I ordered a Pig for one of the stations I worked at 30 yrs ago-they still have and use it.Does transmitter cleanup duties.

Theater Pigs-The NSS place in Toledo,Ohio had a contest years back as to who has the oldest and still running Pig-turned out it was a small movie theater in Indiana that had one-the first model-and still in use at the time. The NSS company sent them a new Pig in exchange for their old one.So if that machine was gobbling up popcorn and candy wrappers all that time-can't be all bad.Wouldn't be surprized if the projectionist borrowed the Pig to clean the booth and the projectors! The NSS folks have the trheater Pig in a display case and will demo it to anyone that asks. There was a time a freind was vacuuming his house with my Pig-it ate one of his socks and jammed the huge fan cold.He stopped it right away and was so worried-I cleared the problem with just a screwdriver in five min!We were releived! So surprized it didn't eat that sock.so if something jams the fan cold-that could kill the motor.
Oh yes, glad you were able to find a proper hose for your machine-keep looking and you might find the other parts. So glad there are other Pig Fans here!

I remember in elementary school the Pigs they were using were definitely early M-1s like mine with the cast metal hanger at the top of the bag rod and the cast metal lower cord hook too, I'd guess early 70s as thats when the school was built. The machines were definitely at least 20-30 years old back in 94-97 until they were replaced. I still think switching to backpacks was a mistake, as good as the Pro-Teams are theres no way one could last 30 years in a commercial use like that!

Also early Pigs didn't have the brusholder guards extending from the rear bearing housing plate. And of course the "kidney bean" style blue Horse logo dump bag.We all know backpacks are in no way going to last 30 or more years as Pigs can-they can last half a century! The first Pig I bought had the cast bag supports and cord hooks.Still use it!It does have the bearing protectors on it.And new Pigs have the cup like guard around the power switch-guess for two reasons-preventing accidental starting-and breakage of the switch handle lever.

From what I was told by NSS, the model M is the older machine with no guard wings over the carbon brush holders and thats the easiest way to differentiate between the M and M-1, there are a few other differences too that I'll compare later on when my M is back together. I've seen many M-1s with the plastic switch cup but mine doesn't have it. My M-1 also has the brush holder guards as all the ones I Remember in school did too. I think my M-1 came from a church (vacuuming pews) or something as it came with the wide upholstery tool and not the wand and rug tool.
