Today I arrived home to a great surprise from Fred Stachnik! A Hoover model 51! It's a wonderful vacuum. The vacuum itself is beautiful. It has an excellent set of well-made attachments, and it runs nice and quiet. It has a really cool low tone to it that is easy on the ears. I did a lot of vacuuming with it tonight and had a great time! It's the first vacuum like it that I have ever received! The mechanism that ejects the dirt is really interesting (haha and prolly more effective than their current "self-cleaning" filter design!). Thanks again Fred it will team up with my model 61 so I can thoroughly clean my house...the Hoover way!

This really cool model U4101 Hoover Convertible is also a gift from Fred Stachnik! This is my personal favorite model Convertible that uses a "full hood." It features the wonderful motor and robust construction that makes the Convertible such a great vacuum. I really like the color of the U4101 very much. This is a vacuum that I have wanted since I first layed eyes on one years ago. It's so fun to use! It's one of my "Daily Runners." Thanks Fred!

Now I have the carpets deep cleaned and everything dusted, but I still have to polish those hardwood floors! Luckily I have this charming model 5140 (Double Insulated) Hoover Polisher! It's lightweight and (like all Hoover polishers (and Floor-a-Matics)), it's really fun to use! This was a gift from Tom Anderson and I'm very glad to have it! I really like how simplistic the design is on these machines. They work very well. I hope Hoover never stops making them! Thank you very much Tom for this, and the two Dial-a-Matics you generously gave to me during our last gathering!

This Panasonic MC-661 is a recent ebay find that I think is really interesting. There are a lot of differences between this earlier design and the models that came out just years later (for instance the brushroll has beater bars on it, and the hose runs up the opposite side of the machine than what we're all used to seeing today). It's got an incredibly quiet motor, but the weird brushroll it uses is all out of balance, and the bag door is missing the handle...so I've got some work ahead of me. I just think it's so interesting!

Hey Corey~

Glad everything arrived safe and sound!

Glad you enjoy the machines. The model 51 was a duplicate that I had, and completely rebuilt probably two years ago. Although the dirt ejector feature is cool, those bags LEAK dust! So, you'll note that I took an Air-Way bag, and cut the plastic 'lid' off of it, leaving the collar. Now you have fantastic Air-Way filtration in the Hoover!

The U4101 was a machine that came into the store--and the owner opted not to get it fixed--so it was "thrown away." I think it needed a new lower motor bearing and fan.

Happy Vacuuming!

PS~

The model U4101 is the cleaner that started it all for me. That model was my parents' first vacuum cleaner--purchased in April of 1979 (which I still have of course).

WOW! Corey great vacs! you should bring thos over! i LOVE the panasonic and the convertible!!!!!! congrats!

Nice Machines.........

Yes, those are some very nice machines. I especially like the 51. When non-vacuum people see mine, they often comment that they never knew Hoover made tank vacuums.

Early Panasonics are growing on me too. I have some early Jet Flo's as well as early Riccars. Some very quiet machines. I also have a tool kit that goes with the Jet Flo's.

Good to see you posting, Corey. I have not heard from you since Tom's Ohio vac gathering last March. Looks like all is well with you.

Take care,

Joe

Corey...

You have a nice array of cleaners there. The Convertible looks to be mint condition. I too like that model maily for the color. The 51 is a very nice machine and with an Airway bag in it, it is very practical too. You will have hours of fun with all of them. Thanks for the photos.

I still want an earlier jetflo like that guys, lol.

Actually, I heard a rumor that for Matsushita Electric (Panasonic) to make the Jetflo they went into a deal with Hoover and secured the (then dropped) designs for the Dial A Matic.

I guess there could be something in it, given the very similar designs.

Aaaah so that's an Air-Way bag!

haha I was so confused about the paper bag inside the model 51. I knew it wasn't really supposed to be there, but I also wasn't able to figure out what actual vacuum the bag was for...the material isn't like the paper material I'm used to seeing for Hoover bags.

Very clever Fred! It's a perfect fit!

I'm looking forward to cleaning my car out with it's excellent attachments (seriously tools these days are getting cheap and less and less useful), as soon as it stops raining...

Hey Joe!

Yes the early Panasonics and Riccars are wonderful. Panasonic really gradually perfected the clean-air vacuum. The old ones were lightweight and quiet, and did a great job cleaning. Customers who bought Panasonics in the past, usually develop strong loyalty towards them...and Panasonic earned it!

Now they're made in Mexico and they're not as good as what they used to be.

-sad face-

Great Machines!!

I agree with Joe, I especially like the 51, too! And also glad to hear from you--been a long time since the "vac-in" in February!!

U4101

Not all U4101's were metal, models in that series with a -001 were plastic based.

Yes thats right boys, I'm back!
