New copycat Dyson cordless

"Isn't it all a bit crazy? These names all broken up like this? And, they all wanted that red Hoover logo.. and some patents."

Well I don't think so, no. It's like I have said many times, when a well-known brand goes bust there is often still a lot of "value" in just the name. In this instance various parts of the Hoover brand from around the world were sold off to different companies who wanted to sell their goods in that area.

When the Merloni group (who owned the Indesit, New World, and Ariston brands) eventually acquired the whole of what was the GDA group (with contained Creda, Cannon, and the European arm of Hotpoint) they almost immediately suspended use of many of the names such as Ariston, Creda, and New World, as in the UK Indesit and Hotpoint are so very well known, with a loyal fan base to each.

Whatever one thinks of these new Hoover and Vax cleaners, from the point of view of people who sell them like Adam here, at least there isn't the worry that customers who choose one over a Dyson will be spending less in the shop, so margin should at least be round about the same whatever they buy. The task is to make sure they buy any brand and not walk out the shop empty handed.

Henryfreyfuss,

How am I supposed to know how the wand broke? I didn't design it or know how its put together do I. I was using it to vacuum my carpets, next thing the top was coming way at the top of the wand, It just broke at the top where the plastic joins the wand. As I advised before, I saw a post on Dysons facebook showing this. The hairlinecrack I have on the rear of the handle can only be rectified with a brand new motor assembly. - a waste for such a small item. The new V8 lacks this cover on the back of the handle, its complete all the way round.

Its great that Dyson supply spare parts but it would be nice to feel it wouldn't break in the first instance, that's all. I only get a 1 year warranty also as its a Dyson refurbished model.

Vintagerepairer,

Its funny you mention about Merloni taking over GDA. My Hotpoint that I purchased in 2015 says Indesit Conpany SPA on the sticker in the door area.

It behaves just like an Indesit, essentially, it is an Indesit inside. Not a bad machine for the price and a 9kg drum with inverter motor.

I wonder if the VAX, Hoover have a smart charging system where it turns off and you can just leaveit plugged in all the time.

Bought a cheap upright cordless here

Woot.com had a deal on a Rowenta Delta Force 18 volt upright just after Xmas here in the States. It claims up to 40 minute run time on normal slow speed and 30 on turbo fast/carpet mode.
It only does floors, has a power brush in the head, removable small dust bin, a cleanable foam filter and actually does clean and groom my carpet pretty well, it also really does run about half an hour even in turbo mode.
As long as the debris aren't huge it picks up well and isn't too loud either. We use it for touch ups and cleaning up quickly when my parrot makes a mess with his treats and things.
Pretty sure it has a lithium ion battery and power stays strong till it gets very close to dead.
Usually we keep it against a wall out of the way and charge it after 4 or 5 uses before it gets low at around 5 or 10 minutes per use.
I've had it since late last December and it still works and holds a good charge.
It was 90 shipped and retailed at 150 to 200 I think. They also make 12 volt and 24 volt versions and run time goes up or down depending on the voltage.
If anyone here wants just a nice cordless floor only cleaner with a power head keep an eye out for these on blow out sales on places like Woot.
I've had it since late last December and it still works and holds a good charge.

An update, I gave it another go on some hard flooring in our store. It picked up dust but that's about it. As soon as I stopped, stones fell out of the floorhead. Not good.
The Dyson fluffy picked it up well though

For the millionth time....

Hoover in Australia is used under licence by Godfreys - they source from TTI, Candy, and their own products. Hoover is only used on floor care/air care and not on major appliances here.

The Hoover and vax models have digital motors - the Vax was on display at our work's expo 2 weeks ago and considering it will be $199 retail (Dyson DC45 is $399 retail) it's a pretty decent piece of kit for the price, the suction was in-between min and max on the Dyson, but runs for 20 minutes +&#92-.

Have a look at the stick products coming out in Aus at the moment:
www.godfreys.com.au

The hoover stuff is decent, but in line with pricing.
TTI has pulled the vax air products, and they are being re-launched through Godfrey's as Hoover branded instead, I think a lack of marketing meant that Vax just couldn't pull the numbers!

We pay a really fair price for the Sauber (lux vacuums) and the Vorwerk too!

Nar, our local Vax sales manager showed me the Vax and they are exactly the same machine. The Vax has an upgraded floorhead and an upgraded battery based on Ryobi. I would not be surprised if Hoover Europe has a deal with TTI.

They are not digital motors, they get very warm, unlike the Dyson
