"Isn't it all a bit crazy? These names all broken up like this? And, they all wanted that red Hoover logo.. and some patents."
Well I don't think so, no. It's like I have said many times, when a well-known brand goes bust there is often still a lot of "value" in just the name. In this instance various parts of the Hoover brand from around the world were sold off to different companies who wanted to sell their goods in that area.
When the Merloni group (who owned the Indesit, New World, and Ariston brands) eventually acquired the whole of what was the GDA group (with contained Creda, Cannon, and the European arm of Hotpoint) they almost immediately suspended use of many of the names such as Ariston, Creda, and New World, as in the UK Indesit and Hotpoint are so very well known, with a loyal fan base to each.
Whatever one thinks of these new Hoover and Vax cleaners, from the point of view of people who sell them like Adam here, at least there isn't the worry that customers who choose one over a Dyson will be spending less in the shop, so margin should at least be round about the same whatever they buy. The task is to make sure they buy any brand and not walk out the shop empty handed.
