New Carpet Cleaner

My one year old Bissell Proheat is finally breaking! It's staring to leak dirty water and dog hair is stuck in the nozzle. It's extremely gross and I'm ready to buy a new one. The Proheat was fine other than two things:

1. The Bissell had terrible suction at the nozzle. I have compact vacuums that have better airflow that it. So I need something that will suck up water!

2. The rotating brush is called a 'floating head' brush. The brush moves up when you place it on the carpet. So with the brush barely touching the carpet, it defeats the propose of the brush! I understand why Bissell made it that way, but with low-pile it does not work. I need a stationary brush for sure.

It seems like they took a vacuum and added a water pump to it. This is my second bad experience with Bissell,so I want to stay away from them. Any suggestions? I thinking about going Hoover. It's hard to go wrong with a Hoover........

I have had my Hoover Dual V for just over two years now and it has given me no problems at all! People on here complain about them a lot, and say they are really loud, but it is great! And just as loud as any other carpet cleaner on the market. It also uses two separate tanks for clean water and soap, so it conserves the amount of soap you use! I strongly recommend it. We payed $189 for it at Kohls. It is the red model, I think it is a bottom of the line model.

A local vac shop sells...

Hoover, Bissell, and Royal, says the Royal has almost zero issues even 5 yrs later.

DONT get the platinum! You will be deceived by its great looks and cleaning performance, but it wont last. Mine is running on 3 vac shop fixes and now cracking apart at the base (rear of machine is no longer attached to rest)


I am going to be buying a Rugdoctor blue line soon. Cant wait. Finally something with super quality.


The best carpet cleaner we had out of many was a 15 year old Hoover steam vac. Didn't clean the best but it was so sturdy.

Get these models! Those are mdl #s F5914-900 (has Clean Surge & SpinScrub hand tool) F5915-900 (same as F5914 but no SpinScrub hand tool) time-tested & not a problem like the Platinum

I also had the Hoover Platinum and was so disgusted with it that when Hoover sent the replacement model to honor my warranty because they couldn't fix it, I gave that away NIB. Despite my dislike of that model, I had heard very good things about the Dual V and Consumer Reports actually gave it quite a good rating.

Have had the Dual V now for over a year, with frequent use and I am still very satisfied with it. Cleans excellently and the carpet is completely dry in two hours or less. Don't have experience with the Rug Doctor, so can't compare them.

I Have

the dual V all terrain and I love it. The only thing is it could use a little more weight on the front end to help it suck deeper into the carpet. I was going to get the Platinum series because it was the top of the line. But my Hoover dealer told me not to get it that it had to many repair problems. So I guess when a Hoover service station tells you the platinum series steam vac is a piece of junk I should listen huh.....

When I went to get a "fix", my dealer talked me out of the Max. Said there were too many repairs, too many complaints about leaking. He advised to go with tried and true. I bought a Spin-Scrub with Power-Surge and have no regrets.
He offered to order me a Rug Doctor, but suggested that I really didn't need it, the spin scrub would do just as well for someone that cleans often. Why use a shot gut to kill a fly?

I will admit that I like Wal-Mart's Pet detergent better (and less expensive) than the Hoover detergent. Only complaint is it's a little sudsy, you have to empty often. I also recently tried the Woolite with Oxy(pet) and was very happy with the results.

Max Extract Pressure Pro/Multi-Surface Pro

How good are these? SpinScrub 60 & SpinScrub77; I hope they're better than the Platinum? I'm happy with SpinScrub classic (SpinScrub 50) other than now it leaks.
