You must be very patient to look for only
the "like new" condition units before you buy.

Did any go through a restoration process?

Patience is a virtue in this hobby that I don’t typically possess. Persistence is as well and I’m far better with that one... The best thing one can do is set your standards very high, pass on things that are obviously going to require parts you know you can’t find, pass on it. I typically will only acquire machines I know I can restore to good-excellent condition. The more common a machine, the higher my standards.

The one difficulty with "choosy-ness" is when
collecting antiques or rarities.

The older or more unique it is, the scarcer
are other examples. Unless a pre-electric
I want is an absolute disaster, I'll look to
restore or refab as close to original as
possible things that need to be worked on.

I know the purists want only factory produced
original parts, but if it is disclosed that
some parts were refabricated, it still keeps
these historic treasures functional and appearing
as the authentic machines they once were.

Sorry I haven’t posted or talked for a while, I was busy with work and the holidays. Here’s the rest of my collection!

I know a lot of people in a lot of different hobbies unrelated to vacs. I see people who buy virtual junk and restore to diamonds, no matter what the cost. I see people who buy things rough/incomplete and then wait for the opportunity to pick up parts (sometimes they wait for yrs).  And I see others who wait for the opportunity to buy pristine.  There's no right or wrong in any of this unless you try to rub someone's face in your 'right'.
