So after seeing a review from Roger, or Sensotronic/IBAISAIC I decided to purchase one of these mid sized twin tubs, it is really fun to use and has quite a large capacity and a good wash action.

I am really happy with it, originally I had a smaller non pumped version it was called a "Royale" it was ok, it didn't hold much though and it had no drain pump so it was a real pain to use so I therefore sold it on.

I ordered this machine a few weeks ago but it has only just decided to turn up, never the less, I am glad I got one.

Here are some photos.

an old one would be nice but...

these ones give you all the fun of an old fashioned one but they take up far less space and are more manageable.

The new imported twin tubs usually have the spinner driven directly off the motor shaft, hence the lower spin speed. The old classics, however, were belt driven via a large pulley on the motor, effectively multiplying its speed.

You might not be missing much though. The Hotpoint Supermatic I had spun at 3100 rpm, but in practical terms it didn't really extract any better than my 1400 spin Bosch auto. When you think about it, the Hotpoint spin can is quite narrow, packed tightly in use and only has a few perforations around its circumference to let the water out. The automatic spins for longer (13 minutes), has a wider drum (which increases the G-force for a given speed) and several hundred more perforations. Identical loads from both machines still took exactly the same amount of time in the dryer afterwards.
