My New Aerus Vacuums - Part 3

As far as I can tell over the last 10 months, no dust leaks at the bag collar when using current style bags. The early bags had thin cardboard and did deform enough under air pressure to leak. But those bags are long gone from branch stock.
Where the bags do leak is at the very bottom, over the HEPA filter. Dust comes through the paper media. It is nowhere near as severe as the recently discussed Panasonic canister. The Aerus bag compartment has very little dust on the sides. Where you find it is in the folds of the HEPA filter. I can assure you that absolutely no dust gets past the filter into the motor.
I don't think fleece bags are the answer because I use fleece bags in my Alto Wap 12 and they leak worse than the paper bags.
All in all the Aerus performs very well and it is still my go to vacuum. The Miele Capricorn hasn't been used in 10 months.

I just got my Platinum on Thurs. and no it does not have the rubber gasket around the inlet tube. I don't know what the reasoning was for removing it after all it has been there on all the Lux model for as long as I can remember. I'm sure that would have solved any dust leakage. Another feature that is gone is the machine will run with the bag door open and with no bag in place although you cannot shut the door without a bag. I don't understand why this feature was removed as well - seems like a step backwards in my opinion.

Thanks again countryguy for that link. I've seen that guy many times on Youtube and he is always very up to date with Aerus products and info. He demonstrates the newer power nozzle and let me tell you they made it very quiet. It sure doesn't sound much like the older Luxes. It still has that certain singing hum but it's much more rapid and muffled it seems like. A very quiet machine by any standard!

Good Lord.......It is quiet!.......I still think it's INSANE that there is STILL no place on board to store the freaking floor tool.......that annoys me so much with my Epic6500....

It would be nice on this Aerus Platinum machine to throw in an extra wand for that floor tool.Save wear and tear on the powered wand connectors!And the demonstator was connecting and disconnecting the powered floor nozzle with the power on!Hard on the connectors!-Doesn't matter WHAT brand of vacuum it is!Nice vacuum overall-My How they have changed!

The vacuum is very quiet. When using the dusting brush all I hear is the air wooshing (is that a word? LOL) into the hose - can barely hear the main unit. And with the power nozzle running I don't hear the main unit at all.

I tried the new Gain scent beds in the scent chamber (as suggested by Tom Gasko) but honestly I didn't notice any fragrance being emitted. Maybe my sense of smell is not sensitive enough.

I forgot to add that I hated the bulky hose handle on my Lux 9000 and 6500 but I don't mind the handle on the Platinum. It is a little smaller and lighter so it isn't as tiring to use. I would still prefer the old pistol grip style however.

I purchased a couple extra wands for the floor tool so I don't have to keep changing it out with the power nozzle. I have about 60% wood floors and 40. % carpet so it makes it easy. It's just a connivence thing for me evan though the platinum is already a very user friendly machine.

I want to thank you again for the pictures and your comments on the new Aerus.
I think it is a really handsome machine. I too noticed the smaller hose handle and thought that might be better.
It seems like they have the early bag problem solved too.
There are just a couple of issues about the design that are holding me back right now and they ONLY would be important to how I use a machine.
First, I wish they had some method to store the flip over tool on board.
Second, from what I can see on the You Tube-the machine does NOT have a quick release for the power nozzle which would force the user to bend down or either upend the power nozzle every time you want to change from floor cleaning to carpet cleaning.
Third, I don't want to have to mess with a second set of wands and what happens to the tools as they are stored on at least one of the sets of wands.

I can see these issues would NOT be a problem if your house was almost all carpet or almost all hard surface flooring.

Keep us posted on your thoughts about the machine as you have had a chance to use it for some time.
Something about the design reminds me of the old XXX. It is pleasing to look at the machine.

Your issues are valid concerns. I have mostly carpet throughout the house - only the bathroom, kitchen and front entrance do not and since they are all located very close to each other, I vacuum them at the same time and then switch over to the power nozzle so it isn't a big deal that the floor nozzle does not store on the machine.
There is no step on quick release for the power nozzle - you do have to bend over and push the release button. Again, not a big concern for me. However you have the same problem with the Rainbow when you want to switch from the floor tool back to the power nozzle as there is no quick release on the floor tool
I would rather have the tools store on the main unit than on the wands as well but then that would make the main unit even larger in size and it is quite large as it is now.
I do like how much easier it is to set up, use and put away compared to the Rainbow or any water vacuum. Also it rolls over floor/carpet thresholds much better than the Rainbow. With the Rainbow I have to lift it up over the threshold.
I do like how quiet it is, even on high speed. I think having 8 speeds however is over doing it a wee bit. I vacuumed the entire main floor using the power nozzle, floor/carpet nozzle, dusting brush and Sidekick and used only the highest speed or the Auto function. When it was on Auto I only ever noticed it being on speed 4 or sometimes going down to 3 or 2 if I pushed too hard on the dusting brush.
I still have not figured out how to make best use of the scent chamber. Just putting the Gain beads in the chamber did not seem to do anything because the beads are at one end of the chamber but the air that is forced into the chamber is at the other end and exhausts straight through so it never passes over the beads. I wish I knew what Aerus had in mind for the fragrance and shape of it to be used.
I checked the bag chamber and did not see any dust due to bag leakage. I'll just have to wait until at least I get a full bag to see how it performs.
I noticed also that the outside diameter of the hose is slightly larger than that of the Rainbow and it is only a couple of inches shorter.
The rubber wheels are very nice. It moves very smoothly on floors and carpet and I think the rubber wheels would be less likely to scratch the floors.
I do like having a cord rewind again. It isn't a big deal with the Rainbow because I would just coil up the cord and hang it over the floor nozzle on the rear of the machine but sometimes the floor nozzle would drop off the machine and thus so did the cord.
Overall I like the Platinum very much....so much so that I am going to be selling both my Rainbow and Filter Queen.

Not to say that you aren't having valid concerns, but I think those who are complaining about the floor tool not being stored on board are forgetting a number of things. Firstly, most machines that cram all of the attachments on board can only do so by making them at least somewhat smaller. Personally, I care about quality full sized tools more. Secondly, most vacuums that store all the attachments on board do not have the engineering problems that Aerus/Lux machines do regarding making way for the blower path and portal. Personally, I'd rather have the blower feature than the on board floor tool. Aerus Lux machines forego that due to the power nozzle being able to clean hard floors also. It's a trade off because NO machine has EVERY feature possible. It's difficult to engineer a machine that has a bag compartment, 2 interior filters, motor, blower, and cordwinder and making it look presentable without appearing like strange appendages. One possible solution might be to place a storage hook on the floor tool neck to allow it to hang on the storage hook while vacuuming. That could be done easily. Otherwise, a carrying caddy should be made. I'm happy with it as is though.

Sounds good to me. I have never really had any problems with my Electrolux machines leaking. It is just the bags started smelling after a short time.
I don't want any machines that I have to add things to the bags to hide the odor. Even after over 10 years use our Electrolux has almost no trace of dust on the inside chamber. Back in the old days the bags were cheap and no problems to replace every 2 weeks.
I was so unhappy when I got the new Panasonic and it leaked so much after the first use.
I agree with you about the Lux being easier to get out and use. I always preferred the narrow shape of the Lux tank. I like using our cheaper Lux tank as it was light weight and the tools fit on the top compared to my Electrolux Epic8000.
We use it upstairs and the Rainbow on the main floor where I am most of the time with the allergies to fight.
On the heavy cut pile carpet upstairs I do believe my Lux power nozzles cleans fine but they just do not pull the nap up as well as the Kirby or Rainbow.
Cannot judge as mine are NOT the new machines and power nozzles.
The new Lux does sound quiet on the Youtube demo.
I agree with you about all the speeds. A Miele I bought had that auto-speed feature. I thought it was sort of useless. Not a bad feature, just not a big deal for my use.
It sounds like you are all set. I appreciate your input.
It is hard to beat the classic design of the Lux combo dusting and flip over tools.

Even before I tried using the Gain scent tabs, there was NO odour from the machine. It has a hepa filter before and after the motor as well as a charcoal filter attached to the pre motor hepa filter. The charcoal filter can be changed independently of the hepa filter.
After using this new Lux power nozzle I found that the nap on the carpet was pulled up just as well as with the new style Rainbow power nozzle. I like the L-shaped power nozzle because I can easily get around the table/chair legs, etc. And it is wider so that it cleans a larger path thus leading to few strokes to clean the entire carpet.
I do not have the mini power nozzle for the Rainbow but the Sidekick III on the Lux is great! It works much better than the Sidekick I & II models, maybe due to the increased suction?

Lux Platinum and Tools

Hi Everyone,


I too am not so crazy about storing the floor brush on the machine. The best combination was the extra set of wands for the combo rug and floor tool so all you have to do is pop the hose grip off and attach to the other. The quality of the floor, combo dusting, crevice and sidekick III make this machine superior to the "toys" on most of the German units. The Rainbow is a very close second. On a side note, I did notice some odor from the exhaust on the unit with a 1/3 full bag which surprised me. Smells a lot like German Shorthaired Pointer. The performance of this vacuum itself is super. Several issues could use attention.

As for the nozzle I like the quieter powertrain and look forward to Dan's video on the new unit with updated Omniflo. Their chief engineer has known for years what was necessary to correct this problem as we talked about it numerous times in the mid-2000's when I worked for Lux. like everyone else, I am disgusted by the lack of Swissaroma scents that are designed to work in the scent chamber of the machine. This was one of the factors that convinced me to give this a try.


A friend was telling me a couple weeks ago there is to be an update on the
Platinum in January. Can anyone shed some light on this?
