Wow, a VARIABLE brush roll??? I've never heard of such a thing. The Richmond dealer didn't mention the Power Nozzle at all in his demo other than to describe the shut off protection and the LED headlight. It is surprising that you find it annoying. The Power Nozzle made very little noise in the video. Perhaps the thickness of the carpet causes it to squeal. Still, it shows Aerus still has the engineering chops to design new technologies.
 
Well just got back from an Arus dealer here in NYC...

i wish i had read this thread first because i think he had a newer cannister *and* upright in stock. The ($2500 quoted) cannister was all black and the upright was a very light powder blue with a somewhat pyramidal shaped filter cover. There was the commercial upright & 8 pound vac that looked like i expected. Shoulda snapped a pic! {Sigh}...well next time.
 
Aerus releases "new" lineup...

Aerus is making a big splash on Facebook about it's latest color change. While they are making a big deal about it they are offering nothing new. It's the same machines with yet another new color. What a shame they can't bring themselves to get competitive with all the machines. I can't link to it here because they won't allow the Facebook page to publically viewed but it looks exactly like the old Guardian with a black and either white or gray color. The power head is solid black. The body is white with the same Lux Guardian writing the canister has on it's power head. The stuck-on side HEPA is still black.
 
Nothing innovative

simply lazy if all they did was change the colors. They do not invest in new technology development. With this upright model, on board tools was necessary, or a direct connect hose was needed. Also it should be a sealed system, how hard can that be. For $1,000 door price, there are better alternatives out there. How does this company expect to compete with other brands, the 1950s business model is dead as many Aerus branches have closed nationwide. The other products air filtration, etc are very overpriced/rip off.
 
It's obvious

They have customers that buy their machines and don't want change . If they want a sealed machine they have the Platinum . These vacuums out last most of the competition with their simplicity .
Aerus vacuums are great simple machines like I have said before I have purchased hundreds for my family and friends and all of their homes are spotless even with out the so called coveted sealed nonsense over priced machines . Aerus Electrolux had multi layer bags before many other brands .

Areus sells lots of air cleaners water filtration heaters ect .
90 years of quality products .

I had hoped Aerus would at least try to connect the upright to the canister by utilizing the double HEPA technology and improving filtration on it too. They had a nearly perfect upright when they had the Lux 4000 with built in hose and on board attachments. Why on EARTH they got rid of that I'll never know. I could even live with the side HEPA because Riccar has theirs like that also. That's not the issue, it just needs to be totally sealed. I just feel Aerus is overstepping when they try to charge as much as they do for an upright that doesn't have on board attachments or a built in hose even though it has all the other technological features the other high-end vacs do. I love Aerus and want Lux to live on but blind loyalty and inability to criticize is not my style.
 
I understand what you are saying, and its valid that there are customers that will continue to use and buy their products, no dispute. I am one of them. However, what you are missing is that the future of the product and its business model is in jeopardy by not producing a complete line up that is competitive in features and price. Simple economics here! Proof is that they have closed several locations nationwide and fail to advertise to target younger or new customers. Other posters here share the same ideas as to why Aerus hasn't created a sealed upright vacuum or on board tools, etc. Maybe the customer doesn't want the canister.

Direct sales while great in the past, the internet and the introduction of newer technologies I feel will kill them in about five years with the current business model. Evidence is in the store closings as branch managers realize this. They cannot remain profitable enough. ( I was told this by a very good friend's father who is an Aerus sales rep for 20 years) Its a dwindling older customer base. The educated upper end of the market is seeing Dyson, Miele and Riccar as high quality brands that are known and recommended by others. When they take their 20 year old Electrolux in for repair, or if in the market for a new vacuum, they are walking out most likely with a Miele or Riccar canister because the Electrolux store that was in town 20 years ago, is now Uncle Louie's Pizzeria! :-)

I have many great ideas what to do with this company and I'm sure others here do to, but Ill leave that for another day.

I agree, I think Apple's approach is a great idea, including the small highly visible locations. Perhaps where Apple stores are in high end malls, Aerus could go the way of a kiosk with live demonstrations in these same malls. An upscale mall would have the right demographic mix, high foot traffic/visibility while maintaining the direct sales model. If I was in the position to do so, I would buy out the this company and revamp the business model. I feel they are hanging onto the old Electrolux name too much and its hurting the brand/confusing potential new customers. This isn't grandmas Electrolux anymore. Things need strong Aerus brand marketing of today.

I would make the upright sealed with optional on-board tools, variable suction, LED headlight, color options- black or white. $850/ 10 year comprehensive warranty.

Carpet Rug Institute Rating

I was looking at the Carpet Rug Institute for vacuum ratings. Gold, Silver, Bronze.

The Lux Guardian Platinum Canister that this thread is about which a lot of us have purchased is only rated at the Bronze level.......Kind of surprises me. The brush rolls in these vacuums is much better than what they had before this came out. The Lux Guardian Ultra that I had did not have a stiff enough brush roll in it and did not groom my carpet well. The Guardian Platinum grooms my carpet well, but evidently could still use improvement.

The Simplicity and Riccar two top of the line canister vacuums only received a Bronze as well....while their uprights received the gold level.

I think the carpet rug institute ratings are bull, its so subjective! They probably charge the manufacture to be listed on there, kind of like the Allergy Foundation website where it lists Dyson as Allergy and Asthma friendly. I laugh. The Aerus machines, most of them pick up very well. I mean how hard of a brush roll do people want? To the point it rips out the carpet fibers.
 
The carpet and rug institute is bull. If you pay them to be rated they give a good rating. If you don't than you end up on a bronze
 
CRI Ratings

are not Bull!


Machines are tested very rigorously not only for dirt removal ability from multiple types of carpet, but also on how much dust escapes from the machine back into the room.


 


If a certain machine does not get a Gold rating it could be because it's performance on some types of carpet may not have been as good as on other types of carpet. It could also be that it emits more than 100 micro grams of dust per cubic meter of air.


 


CRI does not accept any money from any manufacturer to get on the Gold list!
 
Yea, I don't care about the CRI ratings either. I care about them about as much as I care about Consumer Reports recommendations. In other words, not at all. I know Lux vacs can clean as I've seen so many. I called the Aerus store in Winston-Salem and asked about the upright. It's not in the store yet but he quoted me $2,500. Ridiculous. I called Riccar and they quoted me $1,500 for the top of the line upright. Aerus is missing the boat somewhere.

That's insane a quote of $2,500, he deserves to loose the sale, what a rip-off. He's trying to triple or even quadruple his profit margin over the phone, at least do that in the store. That sales model is the kiss of death, no wonder these guys are shutting doors. You have to be a good haggler/negotiator. I wouldn't pay more than $900 including tools for the new regurgitated Aerus Upright.

My Aerus Upright will be for sale soon... its only two years old. You can get a Riccar TOL Upright for $800-1,000 better off with that and its better made.
 
Yea it is quite absurd. I don't like uprights so this is not a real issue for me. I just wish Aerus would either focus on vacuums or switch to an air/water filter company. They are trying to be a jack of all trades. The lunacy is that Aerus KNOWS what it needs to do. The FreshEra is a fine product in the light category. The new power nozzle offers faster speed and quieter operation. They KNOW how to make the right products. I wish they would return to the Lux upright of a few years ago which had a hose and attachments on board updated with double HEPA, LED light, and stainless steel.

How can a business person even think in today's world they can quote such a price for a simple upright machine? That is outrageous.
We have at least 5-6 beautiful vac stores in my area that sell high end Ricarr, Simplicity and Miele machines at different price points. No high pressure and you can try the machines out before you buy.
We have the Electrolux 2100 and the Electrolux Epic 8000. Both are ok machines.
I like the 2100 better just because it is lighter weight.
As Bud states in an earlier post they both clean well but I do not like the pitch of the power nozzle motors and they do not do a very good on my thick cut pile carpets. The 2100 has been very dependable but I paid $360.00 on QVC about 12 years ago and they are selling the same thing now and asking much, much more for the same design. I hate to have to "deal" to get the best price. You always feel like it cheapens the product and the whole purchase experience.
I do not believe you can even buy bags, filters, hoses on the web site.
It seems like their business set up is way behind the times. I don't know of any of my family who would want to call and arrange to have a stranger come to the door to get bags.
The proof is that none of my many relatives who were multiple long time Electrolux users -still have an Electrolux.
They are very good products but no one knows about them anymore. There is too much available on the computer these days.
Even as a collector I am unsure about buying a product with no service close by and many of the branches closed up.
Same experience with the Hyla. Local Dealer has gone. You cannot just buys supplies on line.
 
Well you can't really blame but ONE thing guys... Joe Urso. He is responsible for selling out Electrolux and almost driving them under. He threw it under the bus and paid the price. An Aerus salesman told me one time Urso had wished 1,000 times he had never done it and if he could get it back he would. He did it to them. Aerus has shrank from it's glory days to be sure but I don't think the direct sales model is dead or even dying. Once a customer sees the vacuum they usually loved them.

And to be fair, the $2,500 price included the attachments (Aerus makes you buy those separately), the caddy, 2 year bag supply, and an extra filter.

I have no idea what part of the country you live in but here in NJ and Pa. where most of my family live they all own Aerus/Electrolux . They all love the fact that the sales man still comes to their home and demonstrates the machine even with the fact of me purchasing all the machines for my family members he still takes the time to show them how to use the vacuums and also brings supplies and repairs the machines at their homes. I can repair any vacuum but its easier for the Aerus man to do it because he arrives stocked with parts and does it that day .

I personally don't understand how a collector can not or does not know how to repair a vacuum I read many threads where people have zero idea how to fix a vacuum and I am in shock . I started repairing vacuums at the age of 5 never asked anyone how to repair anything I just took them apart and figured it out . I even repair my cars and do home repairs as well .

I understand they should change but the company is still around and still selling vacuums . It took a lot for them to change the canister but they did . The upright is a machine that lasts rarely breaks down so the simplicity of the machine works.

Parts are available online or at any vacuum shop if an Aerus store is not around.
I never have a problem finding parts for any of my new or vintage vacuums including Aerus for any part needed.

I personally believe all this sealed HEPA stuff is nonsense my parents and grand parents all elder relative's have lived entire lives with out all that nonsense and todays newer homes do nothing but make people sick as they are way too sealed up . I believe in keeping a clean home and have better things to worry about than if my vacuum is spewing a bit of dust .I love a quality vacuum and know its hard to beat the longevity of Aerus Electrolux and I think they are worth every penny and I always haggle for every purchase I ever make I NEVER pay list or retail prices . That includes cars to anything else I purchase in life.

Hey Dan,
You are going to love this one.
I was JUST getting ready to "to give you the business" of how I never had to fix my Electrolux because it NEVER breaks -when I finished using it today the cord winder refused to go back in the machine. First time in 12 years.
Now how was that for timing!

I understand what you are telling me about Electrolux and that is JUST how it was in the Midwest when I was selling Electrolux, but that was 40 years ago.
I think people today want quick fixes and I also think there is just so much completion now in our area there are many high end beautiful vacuum stores that sell the Miele, Ricarr, Simplicity.
Now most of the younger people in my very own family would have NO IDEA who or what Aerus is and I am not sure most would even know the name Electrolux except for the TV ads for their other kitchen appliances sold at Lowes.

It just seems the reality of today is that if I want a cheap machine, I can go less that 10 miles to Walmart, Target, Lowes, Sears and carry home a Hoover, Eureka, Dirt Devil and when a customer gets tired of the cheap plastic vacs they can buy a quality machine just as easy as their are at least 5 very nice vac shops I could go to 7 days a week to look and try a machine.
Not saying this is FAIR or RIGHT but it is the reality of today and their would be very few people who would allow a stranger to come into their home.

I thought that Aerus required the owner to use only genuine parts and supplies to keep the guarantee. I may be wrong. We do not have a Aerus store anymore.

Anyway that is my sad little story on our Electrolux. It has been in service for about 13 years. I did replace the hose one time. I would not think will have the cord winder fixed as the machine is 13 years old.

You are correct too in that I do not want to price haggle over a vacuuum and I cannot imagine the women in my family (if they even knew who Aerus was) being very good or wanting to haggle with a salesman over buying a vacuum.

We as collectors do WANT companies like Aerus to be successful.
 
Was just at my dealer in WH,CT and he showed me the pics of the new upright which siad looks like a penguin. The handle, head and trim piece along with the tools are black, the two body pieces are white. He said the commercial machine is all black though and the other models are black with gray trim.

Like other have said on here my guardian upright leaks air at the bottom by the suction tube, brought it in and got the same answer that its fine. The one in the store did it as well. Went to another franchise store in manchester, CT owned by a different guy, same thing air came out the bottom. Went to another one in west springfield, mass owned by another family and again upright leaked air out the bottom.

As far as the bags go, in every store ive been in I open the canister or upright and the chamber is covered in fine dust esspecially at the very bottom of the bag where it sits near the fan opening. For this reason I use perfect HEPA bags and dont notice the fine dust and the performance lasts longer
