My latest eBay purchase

I went by my local vac shop

and bought a package of bags for my Compacts.  They didn't have genuine Tri Star bags but had bags from a company named Enviro Care.  Does anyone know anything about these bags?  Also,  did Compact make the same  models in different colors?  My C8 is gold/yellow, and I see Rex's is green.

Hey Ben

Eureka made a lot of Montgomery Wards (Monkey Wards as my Nona and Grandfather used to call them) vacuums and badged them as Signature (Montgomery Wards house brand). I remember going to Wards with them (my dad was a die hard Sears Kenmore fan) when we had to replace my mom's old kenmore canister. We bought a Wards Signature, but I was a kid and since running the vacuum was my job, I insisted on a straight suction canister. Uprights scared the hell out of me, and I wanted no part of a power nozzle. Silly Huh? My favorite part of going to Wards with my grand parents was we always went out to eat when we did that. We used to go to a restaurant named Burger Chef. I used to love that. Good times :-)

Monkey Wards!

My Mother called it Monkey Warts!

Joe,

Thanks for the response. So is the power nozzle you purchased for your Compact the original one that went with your machine. Looks like it to me!

Regarding Burger Chef, I did an online search and found that it began in Indianapolis in 1954 and was sold to Hardee's in 1982. The final restaurant to carry the Burger Chef name closed in 1996.

Following are some pics I found online that I thought you'd enjoy ...

Hey Kevin

Yes, I think that PN is the same that would have bee sent with the new to me Compact I just bought. Those pictures of BurgerChef you posted look exactly like the one my grandparents and I used to go to. Such good memories! Thank you for that.

Burger Chef!

I've sometimes wondered what happend to that chain! I used to love going there as a kid because you could watch the burger patties being flame broiled on a moving conveyor belt. Thanks for posting those photos!

we have

we have a town called miami oklahoma they have a coo coo burger joint the best burgers and homeade fries you get 5 lbs of fries never finish all of them but the big thing is the coo coo coke the best they use pebble ice it is great.if ever here try it.the coke alone is worth the drive. plus the trift store there is cool.they always have 50s and 60s style vacs........they are usually around 5 to 10 dallors. for the most expensive one ive seen there it was a dual sanatronic 50 kirby with everything for 10 dallors.some one else was buying it.

There used to be a small midwest chain similar to Burger Chef called Robby's Hamburgers. The roof was a folded plate style that resembled a sprawled out "W"--but the ends weren't as high as the middle. The sign topper, like the frame of Burger Chef's early signs, was patterned after the roof. The restaurant featured the Dandy Burger, and had the classic orange drink and French fries along with other offerings. I believe it, too, was purchased by Hardee's, but because it was a much smaller chain very limited information exists--including photos. It was around from the mid-1960s to the mid-1970s.

Regarding the Compacts--when were they renamed TriStar? How similar are they internally? Were all the attachments made by Eureka? Are they still?

Nice machines, Joe, Bill, and Erik.

Paul,

Another name in 50s was Revelation.Eureka had some of the best atts but Compact only used the power nozzle.
Got to go.For some reason I want a hamburger!

Compact and Revelation

Compact and Revelation vacuums were exactly the same except for color.  Interstate made the Compact for door to door sales, and the Revelation for vacuum shop sales.  I believe they only did this with the C2 models though, I could be wrong.

I want a Super Shef now.  I used to love those.

Looking for electric hose

for my Compact C-8, and a set of wands for the PN i'm buying from Shane.  I found a few hoses on eBay, but came across this one.  What is the seller thinking?  Hose is relatively cheap, but look at the shipping! Yeow!!!  I've bought things from Canada before, but never had to pay that much shipping.  If anyone has a hose and/or a set of wands for sale, please let me know and we can work something out.

Thanks,

Joe
