Miele s5 or Aerus Lux Guardian Ultra

I think Vernon had some good advise. I have seen the Lux Guardian and it is very, very, very powerful. I much prefer the shape and handling of the Lux BUT when I saw the Miele demonstration I was impressed with how quiet the machine is in operation.
They both have expensive bags and filters. Maybe try each one and see which one suites you.
I was just kind of taken back at the cost to maintain either machine if you change the bags and filters per instructions.
The in store demo I had of the Miele did not impress when he used the power nozzle but it MAY just have been on that particular carpet. I also did not care for the above floor tools on the Miele but it had a WONDERFUL bare floor tool.
Let us know what you get!

Vacuum Maintenance

I have to disagree with what was said above about the cost to maintain the Lux and Miele. The Electrolux is much less costly to maintain versus the Miele. The Guardian Ultra uses type C bags and when purchased directly from Lux as a 24 pack or 100 pack, the cost per bag is between $1.16 to $1.50, give or take a few cents for tax. On the contrary the Miele bags when purchased online at a discount are about $4.5o per bag. The HEPA filters for each machine costs between $40 to $50 depending on where they are purchased. However the Miele bags filter much better than the Lux bags and can hold a lot of dirt while still maintaining suction power. But Im not sure that you can equate what the Miele holds to be up to 3 Lux bags (which would bring the price point to the same level).

I owed my Mieles for a few years and I think I only changed the HEPA filter once in maybe 3 years. I always used genuine Miele bags and the filter always seemed to be clean. I cant say how often you would have to change the filter on the Lux but Im guessing that once per year would be the normal frequency. One last thing to consider if you plan on keeping the machine for a long time is the 20 year warranty compared with a 5 year warranty (Thats how long it was when I bought mine) on the Miele. If you do go with the Miele you should seriously consider upgrading to the SEB236 power nozzle, it cleans circles around the 217. Best of luck!
