Bill,

You are right, old school design, but having said that, simple, straight forward, and reliable. On/off switch and a motor--pretty simple. Paper bag that fits into a cloth bag, followed by a hepa filter so exhaust emissions are pretty good. I have the pro series compact version, it looks like a giant thermos bottle, good suction, good airflow, light weight. Wouldn't hesitate buying one again, mine does not have the power nozzle. The smaller compact version has a single swivel front caster, the full size version does not have this feature as the two wheels are stationary. The only dislike I have is that the exhaust comes straight out of the rear end of the unit. If you place the unit close to a wall, the exhaust will literally push the machine away from the wall. I have seen the full sized version with powernozzle. Don't know what to think of the powerhead, could be better, could be worse. The actual full size canister is just longer than the compact one. With it's all metal construction, if you want a unit that can be kicked around without harm, this one would be on the short list.

I saw these at the Bay Dept store downtown Toronto last September, they were clearing out the big one and a small one.. I think they wanted $239 for the big one with the power nozzle...and I'm thinking I should have bought it LOL.. It's very utilitarian looking but pretty well all metal and indestructible.

Bill,

From what Metropolitan Vac has told me, it does have an Ametek motor. Sorry, don't know which model, believe it is a two stage though.
