Hello. I was using my Model E today and I started noticing a strange buzzing sound and a great reduction in suction. I took the filter cover off and saw that the buzzing sound was actually blue sparks arching from the motor. Does this mean a motor replacement is in sight? This machine sees very little use, what would have caused this? Are motors available?

Thanks
Tim

Thankfully, it's not the end of the world when this happens. Check the motor's brush carbons. Since this is an old machine, the carbons may be worn beyond service limits. Good though, you caught it early. Try dressing the commutator with some emery cloth or a "Comm-stick" and replace the brush carbons. Another problem, but unlikely, could be the armature itself. Hope this might help.

Thanks.

I guess I'll begin tearing into it to see if I can fix it. I've never done it before, so I guess I'll muddle through, take notes and pictures, and go from there. My local vac shop has closed since its owner is not in good health or I'd take it to him. He replaced the motor several years back.

Any suggestions

About where I can find information on how to work on my model E? I've searched you tube, but no luck. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Tim

Thank you for your offer. I don't get down to Orlando too often. Have been a few times though. I'm going to tear into it this weekend. If I get stuck, could I call you to walk me through it?
