Nilfisk has released a new line of commercial machines. I want to get some thoughts. I love their g70, gm80 and gd1000 machines. I have tried all of them. These machines have all proved very reliable and dependable. My school used Nilfisk GD1000 machines for 15-20 years before they started dying. Their VP300 machines only lasted 6-9 years. They did not maintanence and treated them extremely badly. I have seen g70/gs80s used for decades that are still running. I find all of these powerful, reliable and nice to use. They are all extremely maneuverable. My schools VP300 likely suffered because of the pre-motor Hepa filter as the others don't have HEPA. Also, they lowered the wattage and severely shortened the carbon brushes. I can also imagine they either lowered or didn't improve the quality from the old VP300. The battery on the VP500 may also prove problematic.

My school had the 1st gen VP300s, not the new ones.

I think they are nice machines. I like the cord winder, HEPA exhaust filter, big switch, handle with rubber, cordless option, etc. I hope they are high quality.

The corded models are only showing 250 watts of cleaning power. That is pretty wimpy.

It really is. They had that amount on the old VP300s and I was never impressed, though it does get the job done.
Does New Zealand have a maximum power allowed for vacuums like the EU's 900 watt ceiling? Panasonic sells a bagged canister vacuum called the Eco Max Bagged Vacuum Cleaner in New Zealand that has variable power, draws a maximum of 1400 watts of electrical power and claims 420 watts of cleaning power. Panasonic makes an excellent reliable and durable vacuum cleaner.

Hmm...I find it a bit...troubling that the GD1000 design is still in use. Hopefully they've improved it's structural integrity. I had a dual speed model which was absolutely covered in cracks. I think the damage to the upper body would be attributed to drops but the bin had a giant crack in the center as well as around the wheel wells. There was another 1005 on ebay which seemed to have the same crack running down the center of the bin. It seemed like the bin just flexed way too much when the suction was blocked off creating a stress point in the housing.
So hopefully they've improved either the material it's made of or reinforced the design. Of course with the new lower wattage motors it may be a non issue.
It's a shame too that HDS would have been a nice machine if not for all the damage.

Don't know why nilfisk is saying 250w for the corded model you would normally expect that from a cordless machine. I am assuming they mean motor watts correct me if im wrong.

In the UK the vp300 has a 800w motor
(Because of eu rules) models outside of the eu will probably have more powerful motors. Nilfisk need to improve there specsheets.

250W, they mean 250 airwatts I think.

Blackheart, yes, that was a problem, I had forgotten about it. SAo thank you for reminding me. All of the ones at my school (they had gd1000s before the VP300s started replacing them, many even outlasted them) had the cracked bases, clogged and stained filters, hard floor tools on carpet, etc. They just kept going though!

That is air watts, suction times airflow ( in metric units ). And it is probably measured at the hose end.
