Hi, I have just about finished Wet Sanding the '79 Tradition, And would love to still have the original bagging system. However,

This system is known to be one which restricts airflow, And if there could be a way to improve performance without sacrificing the original parts?

Answer- Probably not.

Alex (SUPER-SWEEPER),

The suction relief vent trim color is a tough issue, indeed. Most of the suction relief vents the Traditions had - when it was a feature on the rug nozzle - were clear white.

I do not know whether or not the blue one was bojack/aftermarket, used by independent mom 'n pop vac shops.

So you may want to leave yours alone, at least for now.

And about the bagging system... that is another tough one, because of what others had said time and again about the fill tube design not being large enough to withstand bigger objects. Kirby also recommends you open the bottom of the Sani Em-Tor after changing the disposable bag, as some larger objects picked up by the vacuum may reside at the bottom.

Super Sweeper - Put a blue Tradition bag on a Heritage 2/Legend/Legend 2 Mini Emptor. Keep the old metal Sani Emptor for show. Put a G Series fill tube and bag adapter inside the blue Tradition bag. Use the G series Hepa bags ( I prefer the G4-5 bags) to improve performance.
Still all genuine Kirby parts,,Just upgraded from the original Tradition bag system.

I just ordered a shake out bag for my Tradition. From what a few members have said here it seems to make more sense. I'm used to the shakeout bag, and disposables just seem like a waste of time and money. Also, since the genuine Kirby bag is still readily available, it makes it easier to switch without having to use a bojack bag.

Ben, yes it is. I saw a guy on Youtube did that modification to a Classic Omega, with a sani emp-tor from a Tradition and a bottom plate from a Heritage, and a Heritage II fill hose and top, to use the white polypropylene bags in it. I don't know how one would attach the plate (hot glue?) or do a mod to the emp-tor (drill holes and thread them) but you certainly can improvise.
