Very nice 508! I love it. I just recently polished up my 508 too. Mine is missing the original bag and I guess the original belt lifter as mine is the later 509 style. Interesting what you said about the 505 not having a belt lifter until 1946. I recently sold a 505 with the cap instead of the belt lifter and someone said that's the way the early 505's came. It seems as if there is some confusion as to whether the 505 came with the belt lifter only or some with the cap. Just curious if there is any documentation to confirm what really happened.

You should have kept your 505 with the cap! I imagine those are pretty rare. Also, I don't have any written documentation regarding the early 505 cap. I have another friend who has told me that, and it looks like Charles agrees too. I wonder if a 505 manual indicates that.
