Hey Vacuumlanders. Just wondering if anyone has ever tried to open up & modify the power/speed/safety switch on the side of the Kirby Generation series motors? So that the speed switch in front would be disabled & the Kirby permanently put into HIGH speed.

The reason I ask this, is I have 2 Royal uprights, Kirby G4 80th Anniversary, G6 2001 Limited Edition, 2 Heritage II's, & a 519. When I got my first Royal, it was obvious it moved more airflow throughout the system, due to the deeper pitched fan blades & motor amperage being higher. So it made me want to improve the performance of my Kirby's, so they clean just as well.

Now, I have found a way to "trick" the Heritage Kirby's into running on HIGH speed permanently....all you have to do is remove the rod that attaches to the speed switch in the motor compartment, & set the switch on HIGH & leave it there. And of course, with the 519 it's got only one speed, so no need to modify it. So far, I have found you can activate the second speed switch on a Generation series with a small flat blade screwdriver while vacuuming, but that's a nuisance as it comes out on occasion & needs to be re-inserted.

So, if anyone knows how this could be done, please do chime in. And please, no offense, but I don't want to be lectured about possibly burning out the motor prematurely....I don't believe that besides having to change carbon brushes more often, that it could damage the motor in any way.

Thanks in advance....Rob

ok, i dont think that it hurts the motor at all, just maintain the motor with new barrings and carbons, and you will be good, when i had a kirby classic omega, i had it set up to run on high speed, it just really deep cleaned way better, now i dont remember how in the world i did it, and i dont have any kirbys at the moment to try and figure it out.
wish you the best of luck.
