Kenmore Telescopic Wand

I got a Kenmore Progressive (like the one pictured)canister yesterday at the Salvation Army for $12.99. I really like it but the power nozzel cuts on and off when in use. Im sure it's something to do with the wires in the telescoping wand, but the led lights on the handle stay on with out flickering, so not sure if it is the wiring then. Any ideas on how to get to the wires? I can't find a replacement wand online that has the led lights, so would really like to fix it. Thank's for your help!

I had that problem with an older model without LEDs, The problem was the top connector in the wand, It had a fuse in the connector, The fuse was fine,it was a wire that was soldered to the fuse that came loose,this fuse is inside a rubber connector and is not replaceable, but the whole connector is and was not that expensive from Sears, Mine had a thin wire "Tape" like you would find in a desktop computer,The hardest part was taking the plastic part off that covers the wire on the wand,I broke a couple of the tabs in the process, maybe someone here knows how to take it apart without breaking anything, If you go to Sears parts online they should have what you need without buying a whole new wand, or at least you can see a diagram. I would check each connection by holding one end and pull on the part connected to it to find the loose or broken connection.

I have the new red model, which is basically what replaced the yellow one above. It's in for repair, as while I was vacuuming, I tried to extend the wand and the PN motor, dirt sensor lights, and wand light all went out.

I would think if your PN is turning on and off but the wand light stays on, there must be a loose connection where the wand connects to the PN. But I am not sure on that, I don't know much about these newer units.

I think your connection from wand to power nozzle is loose or burning up. You need to look at all wiring connections from power nozzle to wand, wand to hose and hose to canister. Look at the connecting pins, and I bet one of those connections is burning up or corroding. All of the pins should be gorgeous shiny copper.

If all of that checks out I would take the vacuum to your local vacuum shop and see what they can find. It could be a bad switch in the hose handle, it could be a wiring problem inside power nozzle itself. But my guess is that the problem is a burnt connection in the top paragraph. It's something very common on Panasonic/ Kenmores.

Start by looking at the male contact pins in the nozzle end of the hose.

Update

After taking the wand apart and finding nothing wrong with it. I cleaned all the connectors, and it turned out the power nozzle and wand were not making enough contact to stay on when moved, but now she's up and running. Thank's for your help and suggestions!
