Strange and Funky Both Sum It Up!

That's definitely one unusual machine. I must admit it was never my favorite Westinghouse model, but the more I look at the pics of yours, the more I like it! Do you know if they might have private labeled some of that model for Monkey Wards? I'm pretty sure that I remember seeing a machine that was identical except for color (it was green if I remember right) with the Wards name or logo on it when I was a kid.

I love it! So streamlined. I seen one on the bay a while back but it went way out of my price range!
I also have a heater like yours. Keeps me toasty in the winter when Im not using wood.

It's so hideously over the top that it's fabulous -- I've heard one of these beasts run, and it was I believe the loudest vacuum cleaner I've ever heard!

This, I'd be willing to guess, is a splendid example of hiring a brilliant industrial designer to come up with a new look vs. "design by committee" with said committee formed of in-house people none of whom really understand the concept of form and function or industrial aesthetics.

Compare this monstrosity with any of the machines by Dreyfuss, Loewy, Guild, et al, and you'll see what I mean.

Westinghouse

This vacuum does have some merits, it is fairly low so it goes under furniture easily,it is much easier to push than Hoovers and Eurekas of the same time frame and remarkably it cleans well.
