there is very little bad out there as far as uprights go, hell a Kirby only comes with a one year guarantee! The plastic may be cheap but most motors are made to the same quality, we seldom get vacuums in with burnt out motors any more , more broken handles and cord's and those are seldom covered by guarantee, even if the motor is burnt out its normally customer abuse as they haven't cleaned out the filter


 


Thing is if its cheap enough it becomes a statistics game instead of quality. Dysons in SA come with a 5 year guarantee but most people have lost there slips so they get charged for a repair if it does break. the other thing is that if the machine is cheap enough most customers won't bother with the guarantee, hell some don't even bother if its still under the one year guarantee. the thought of been stuck with out a vacuum for a week or two is worse than just spending money and getting another one.

gsheen, If you look at the ad, it says at the top "Now with 100 Pounds(I don't have a funny L key) Off" I think it's definitely not a $350 machine, but in comparison to the other $200 range machines from Dirt Devil, Eureka, Bissell, and Shark, this might compete for sales, but it's still a rip off.

Notice the pictures in the second link posted. One of the pictures shows the blue machine sitting at the foot of the stairs, with the hose stretched way out, going up the stairs. Who or what is standing on that machine to keep it from tipping over with that much tension on the stretch hose?? A 90 pound bag of Permanente cement, maybe?

Dirt Devils have had 6 year warranties for years, so I don't know if a 5 year warranty from Hoover means quality... It's a sales gimmick because they know people won't use it.

It looks cheap and I think most of us would agree that the kind of people this thing would be marketed to aren't the most discerning floorcare consumers. I mean if you'd buy a vacuum in a grocery store.... hold on, I almost did that! The only time I considered buying a vacuum cleaner at a grocery store was when Winn-Dixie had the Electrolux Intensity for 99 dollars when they were going out of business (just my local store, not all of them).... I waited 2 days and went back again and they were all gone and replaced with a stack of pressure washers!

I'm careful with Aldi because I know their stuff isn't that great.... I bought a Crofton ice cream maker from them for 20 bucks one time and the plastic broke inside a year.... it worked well, but the motor was whiny from the start.

As far as I've seen, these 3+ year warranties only cover manufacturing defects, they generally don't cover the vac being used and then failing (e.g. using the vac, clogging the filter & blowing the motor, that's not covered), that's how they get away with it, and they have it all worded up in legal gibberish so the average layman on the street will just look at it briefly and toss it in the bin...

Buy quality, not quantity...

Umm looks like there dropping the price in Argos for the Hoover Turbopowers to £149.99 from £229.99. But Comet are still selling them for £249.99.
Even on the Hoover.co.uk they have dropped the price from £249.99 and £229.99 down to £149.99 and £129.99. They must not be selling that well.
They had one of these on QVC last week Special offer of £99.99 The presenter could not use it properly. I got the feeling she did not do much vacuuming in real life;o)

The "cleaning the stairs" photos always appear to be done with the cleaner switched off, or else there would be toppled machines and filthy bins.

That came to mind when the young lady dashes upstairs with the hose nozzle of the Hoover "The One" and the voiceover says:
"One touch all floor cleaning, One touch full stair cleaning..."

Anyway, these Hoover Turbopowers seem to have a footswitch on the motor casing, and a handle release pedal in the usual left position. Similar no doubt, to the modern cheapy Electrolux and Vax Chinese jobs.

Well at least it has a proper cyclone in it. The main problem with the bagless machines is the cheap, crappy low efficiency cyclone. I'd imagine that clogging filters and overheating motors are the main cause of bagless machines burning out after 18 months.
