I have a Hoover Constellation model 444 with a worn bushing or bearing. I turned it on one day and it sounded normal but when I turned it off it started making a heavy rumble/grinding sound. I took it to a vacuum shop that repairs lots of older vacuums and they said that the bearing was not able to be replaced just because of the way the motor is. They said there were four things I could do, strip it for parts, find a new motor for it, turn it into a lamp, or sell it as is. What should I do?

you will regret,

Not replacing that motor!

Why would you replace the motor for want of a $2 bearing? Just replace the bearing. The vacuum store lied to you about it's difficulty in replacing it.

Where

could I find a motor? The vacuum shop said they couldn't find one for me. It's my first and only constellation I would like to save it. Do any of you have one I could buy?

Tom and others are right, it's not that difficult to replace the bearings if you have a few basic tools and some patience. Some people get very intimidated by the idea of doing it themselves, but if you're willing to get 'hands on' it's not hard and there are plenty of folks here who can and will help with directions and encouragement.

Change that bearing change that bearing...OR you can't take the easy way out & get a new motor for under $100 I saw on Google clock is ticking...lol
