How to cook an entire dinner inside a dishwasher

If I recall......

Isn't this a continuation of the "How to cook a turkey in your dishwasher" that came out around Thanksgiving last year? It seems I recall reading something about that anyway (although my memory isn't as good as it used to be though!). I've not personally tried it, but I do suppose it wouldn't be too much different than steam cooking your food.....it would be interesting to hear from someone who's actually tried this! Certainly a new twist on cooking.....and you have to take the time to read the comments, they are hilarious!

Reminds me of a cookbook I saw one time called 'Manifold Destiny' that had recipes for cooking your dinner on the engine of your car while you drive home from work.

Now I can attest that putting a large (boxed) pizza on top of the engine keeps it nice and hot after a 30 minute drive from the pizza shop. I tried that 25 years ago after seeing it in a comic strip.

I mean it's kinda neat. A dishwasher is effectively just a big steamer, from a cooking point of view. I don't really see the advantage though. You'd be better off just using a crockpot, especially if you're cooking your food in sealed containers like mason jars.

On that note, that's probably an excellent way to cook meat. If it's cooked in a sealed container, it keeps all the flavor in. I'd be a little worried about a mason jar bursting open, though (doubt that'd happen in a dishwasher). I've heard tell that if you put a raw steak in a vacuum-sealed bag, and boil the bag, the steak turns out perfect.

Mythbusters tried cooking in the dishwasher on one of the episodes.
They found it plausible, but suggested thin, short cooking items, like Salmon; as they cautioned the temperature didn't quite reach safe levels on other items.

Way back when gas was cheap, we had some family friends that traveled in their pick-up camper. Mr. Simmons had a "oven" that was attached to the manifold of the truck engine and they could put items in at the start of the trip and it was ready for lunch when they stopped.

I can see this as much more practical than the dishwasher, as the temps of an engine manifold gets quite a bit hotter than the 140-150 or so the modern dishwasher achieves.

Yes, WAYYYY more... Manifold coatings (paints) are rated up to 1400*F!
