Hoover Windtunnel cord clip broken...again!

VacuumLand – Vintage & Modern Vacuum Enthusiasts

Help Support VacuumLand:

Yes but the usual problem with the Hometek still goes on; the dust channel from the floor head is smaller - a bit like my Electrolux Cyclone stick vac - as is the actual handle and straight neck combined suction tube that the hose locks in at the top for extended use.

On the Hometek two blanking plates top and bottom indicate where a possible extension straight plastic tube may well have been part of the Dirt Devil Swerve upright.

The combination crevice and slide down dust brush tool is smaller than 32mm/3.2cm and measures just 3cm/30mm. Same with the bore at the bottom of the suction tube combined handle suction tube. The stretch hose opening is quite large though, bigger than Miele/Bosch 35mm. Doesn't even fit a SEBO tool, but the SEBO extension hose with its rubber cuff would fit, not that the Dirt Devil hose needs extra length but could do with the better SEBO tools off the SEBO extension hose if fitted.

Where is this thread going?

Why are Sebo_fan and Parwaz786 talking about this Hometek upright?

My original post was about the cord clip on my Hoover upright which has broken off for the 2nd time and may not be covered under warranty.

Hoover products, in my experience, tend to break easily. I had a SteamVac Agility that was purchased 10 years ago, and it had easily broken parts as well. After about a year, one of the internal hoses split, rendering the carpet cleaning portion of the machine useless. It would only suction at the floor when locked in the upright position. But the hose still worked, so it became a (rather large) spot cleaner.

One of the solution tank lid latches broke off, but it was still able to latch onto the tank. Eventually the latch broke on the upholstery attachment, rendering it useless as well. However, the machine included a SpinScrub hand tool, so the loss of the standard upholstery tool wasn't a big deal.

A few years ago, ANOTHER internal hose split. With all of these broken parts, we threw out the entire machine in late 2012.

Below is a pic I found online of what it looked like.

The thread is still on topic

The Hometek product is A TTI product which like your Hoover, is ALSO a TTI product. So it isn't as far off your topic. Both my Hometek product and yours outlines and reinforces that these days, modern vacs are not built to last and planned obscelence and non-repairable bits are parts of that non-repairable clause that is factored into the actual model's design.

You have also been a member of this site for some time. You have also contributed to other threads and other posts, so you must be aware that not all modern products these days are built well.

Plus the other point that kirbylux77 in this thread has pointed out, and quite rightly you are judging your opinion on free vacuums that you family got as part of the Vine program. It is easy to slant something you get for free rather than paying out for it.

But by that judgement alone, ten years ago you couldn't buy a cheapy vacuum cleaner with a long warranty. So there is some light at the end of the tunnel, even if you, yourself may not personally use the warranty that comes with the vacuum. You can use it, so why don't you if you like the vacuum?

Sorry, I thought this was another thread that was drifting off into another subject.

Yes, I am aware that not all modern products are built well.

Now, my dad, being a Vine Voice, writes reviews for the free products we receive. Sometimes I give some advice to help him with his reviews.

My SteamVac Agility was made back when Hoover was owned by Maytag. However, in 2006, Maytag was acquired by Whirlpool, and Hoover was sold to TTI.

I like my Hoover for the most part; it does an excellent job at cleaning carpets. At the end of the day, I will keep using it. I can live with broken parts; I just have to do some things differently.

Hoover's response

OK, so this morning, Hoover finally got back to me. Here's an excerpt from the email:

"Hello

Thank you for contacting Hoover Customer Care at www.Hoover.com. The handle assembly would need to be replaced. Please reply back confirming your shipping address information (no po boxes please) and attach the receipt if available.

Sincerely,
Dawn

Hoover Customer Care"

So, should I get a replacement handle? I only have one week left in the warranty. I also don't have a receipt, as this vacuum was free from Amazon Vine.

Just making sure that you know I wasn't hijacking

If they have the vacuum cleaner on record already, i.e. if you have registered the vacuum for the free warranty, they shouldn't need the receipt. If you haven't registered the Hoover vacuum then they may well have to honour the warranty from when the serial number is registered, regardless of how long you have owned it.

As for my Hometek, sadly the seller can't get a part for the hose mount. It is a part that is bonded onto the top of the opening where the suction tube handle goes. A zip tie wouldn't work, but a large carabine clip might suffice if I can find them. That would hold the top of the hose at the back to the suction tube from behind, if that makes sense!

Thats why I asked. It was like my old Miele a few years ago. I hadn't registered it and it came with a 2 year guarantee. I clean forgot that I hadn't registered it and when phoning Miele UK one day, they mentioned that they had no record of the vacuum cleaner. That's when I registered it - and after 2 years when the original warranty went out - but Miele suggested that from the time I registered the vacuum, that's when the warranty goes live. A lot of brands also do this such as Vax (TTI) too, so that's a nice thing for companies to do, when serial number registration makes the warranty go live.

Update

My no-charge order has been placed this morning! Hoover is sending me a replacement handle, clip included, for FREE as a one-time courtesy.

In other news, today is my 21st birthday! So this was a pleasant birthday surprise.

I give a big thumbs up to Hoover for their excellent customer service! They have restored my faith in the company.
