Hi guys
I've never owned any vintage appliance before. I've been quite happy with my Miele upright S7210 vacuum cleaner but I decided to buy a Hoover Senior 6525E complete with unused tools. I love it! It's in pretty good condition. I've replaced the belt and bulb and given it a clean. I handwashed the outer bag. I also fitted a Miele upright bag to improve filtration. So how does it compare to the Miele upright?
The Miele weighs in at a very heavy 10 kg, whereas the Hoover is a more reasonable 7.5 kg (compare this to the Oreck XL at 5 kg). According to my iPhone's sound meter, the Miele is slightly quieter. The Hoover makes more of a deep growling sound as it beats the carpet whereas the Miele sounds mostly like airflow noise.
The Hoover is easier and feels lighter to push around.
They both seem to clean the carpet extremely well and I can't tell the difference.
The airflow through the tools on the Hoover is very slightly more than the Miele when the Miele is set to the lowest setting. However when you obstruct the flow of air by covering the hose with your hand, the Miele even on the lowest setting will suck your hand slightly harder to the hose compared the Hoover. A lot of the Hoover's suction is lost to the floorhead when using the tools. I tried removing the belt and blocking off the floor head, which improves it by a reasonable amount.
I made a video too. Check out the link!
