Ever buy something and think Why?

I went to the Elkhorn fleamarket yesterday and ended up buying a Hoover Model 925 for $20. Once I started to haul it to the car I wondered Why did I buy this?

Got it home and plugged it in they direct wired the motor and bypassed the switch all together. Took all the tape off the handle and got the switch out, found the third wire, then tested all the wires, it has high and low speeds.

Taking off the pulley cover it's missing part of the pulley, what is there is this weird clutch mechanism on the shaft. The brush roll is a newer one with curved brush inserts instead of the straight brush inserts.

The bag on it is a Dustest conversion bag that takes C type bags. It had a cloth bag inside instead of a paper bag full of crap.

That's such a rare cleaner Ray, I'm glad you bought it and saved it from the scrap pile. It can be restored. Owen Perkins restored my model 900, and we traded for a Hobart N-50 mixer that I wanted.

They sure do polish up nice. Congrats on a VERY rare find, in any condition.

My most wanted machine is a commercial 925 or 900. I'd trade my whole collection for a nice one as its one machine that if I possessed it consider my collection complete!

You got a score even if it's a little wonky. It can be made beautiful again with just a little love

925

Ray, I may have some parts that would work. I know that I have the old style agitator and belt cover. I have a model 800 parts machine with a complete motor. It is rated at 340 watts. The 900 and 925 had a specific armature, bearing plate, fan, and belt pulley. I am not sure if the 800 parts could replace them - never even seen a 925. The 800 parts machine also has a furniture guard, that is in fair condition, which carries the same part number as the 925.
I can email you pictures of the parts if interested. Or, if you are considering selling your 925, I would be interested as well.

It's cleaning up nicely. What's left of the pulley is interesting, I think it has a clutch or a harmonic balancer (to dampen vibrations) not sure which. Then here's a couple shots of the motor.

3rdGenVacGuy - Thank you for the offer, I'm still deciding as to where I want to go with this. I know the vultures are already circling.

Am not!

I just "mentioned it"!

The pulley is very interesting. Would the missing part of it (that the belt actually rides on) be secured with a small screw into the shaft protruding out of the center? I can't tell if that's threaded inside or not. I suppose a new piece will need to be made on a lathe.

Does the inner shaft move relative to the outer housing? Or are they locked together? A clutch would be the most logical function, but those motors had plenty of torque to start a fan and Hoover agitator spinning. Unless it works the opposite way, slipping if something stalls the agitator, like a Dyson clutch?

Actually I bet that's it. Cool as hell! Thank you for posting these pictures, Ray.

You mentioned It, alright!

You mentioned it at least 5 times! LOL He must have gone to Mr Fix It to find parts for it, like a pully

Dont forget, Owen, you told me to STRESS that you want that Vacuum Sweeper...LOLOL

Just watchin out for ya ;)
